Key Takeaways
- Windblown allows players to choose their avatar from the start, each with the same gameplay.
- Weapons like Anchor Boom, Beatbolt, and Boomerang offer unique playstyles and powerful benefits.
- Shields, Kunai, and Sirocco provide strategic advantages like counterattacks, curses, and fire damage.
Unlike Dead Cells, the previous game the developers over at Motion Twin handled, players get to choose their avatar in Windblown from the start. They can be a lizard or a bat, for example, but no matter what animal they choose, every character will play the same.

Windblown: Beginner’s Tips and Tricks
These tips and tricks can help you perform better during runs, find more materials for upgrades, and raise your odds of success in Windblown.
They will also begin the same way with a big sword that looks reminiscent of Pyramid Head’s weapon from Silent Hill 2 except Windblown’s sword is less scary. Now, players can find more weapons on their runs and unlock more from upgrades too. Of the many types in the game so far, these are the best to find or unlock as quickly as possible.
8 Anchor Boom
Blast Cannonballs And Apply Burn
The Anchor Boom is a gun that looks like an anchor or it’s better to describe it as a mini-cannon. Players can lob one cannonball at a time until the end of the combo which will launch a trio of them. For the ranged weapons in the game, it’s the slowest one in the pack.
That said, the cannonballs do a lot of damage to enemies. There is also a chance players can inflict the Burn status effect on enemies. Burn will harm them over time with fire-based damage, a symptom RPG fans should be all too familiar with from the Pokemon franchise to the Final Fantasy empire.
7 Beatbolt
A Crossbow Based On Rhythmic Aiming
The Beatbolt is a crossbow players can find on their journeys. Unlike most weapons in the game, the Beatbolt has a rhythmic system attached and if players hit their buttons right, they can cause more damage.
It can be hard to pull off these time attacks when enemies are coming from all over the place, but it’s still a nice effect attached to the weapon. This, along with other weapons in the game, has the advantage of ranged attacks, keeping the health of players safe. It’s a good one to consider for those who value defensive strategies over offensive ones.
6 Boomerang
Not Your Typical Boomerang
The Boomerang looks like another weapon in the game and not like a stereotypical boomerang some 90s fans may be familiar with from The Rescuers Down Under to The Simpsons. Windblown’s Boomerang instead looks like a giant four-sided fan blade.

How Windblown Compares To Dead Cells
Motion Twin’s Windblown has a few key similarities yet also obvious differences when looked at in comparison to its previous title, Dead Cells.
When it makes contact with an enemy, it will stay in place for a few seconds and do damage continually before returning. It’s a good weapon to leave in a boss while dodging other attacks. While powerful, players probably won’t find this blueprint until they get to the game’s final biome.
5 Kunai
Throw Knives And Apply Curse
Those who watch the Naruto anime or any ninja-based anime should be familiar with the concept of kunai. They are typically sleek throwing knives and sometimes they can be as thin as needles. They’re a bit thicker in Windblown and they have one of the weakest attack strengths in the game.
However, what they lack in overall power they much up for in speed as players can whip them quickly. Better yet, enemies hit with the Kunai will be Cursed and Cursed enemies will take more damage. Like the Anchor Boom’s Burn status effect, the Kunai’s Curse can help players strategically.
4 Ninja Stars
Become A Shadow With These Ranged Weapons
Both Dead Cells and Windblown give their characters a good sense of agility, making players feel like they are ninjas just like with the Kunai. This is more true in Windblown since the dash mechanic is a big part of traversal along with combat thanks to defensive dodges.
The Ninja Stars weapon can make players feel even more like ninjas as they can throw a few larger ones out at enemies. They’re bigger, sort of like the giant shurikens used in earlier episodes of the aforementioned Naruto anime. Like the Beatbolt, players can feel safer with the Ninja Stars equipped.
3 Shield
For Those Who Like Counterattacks
The Shield is an interesting gamble for players to take as it is a purely counterattack-based weapon. Players cannot throw it to attack like Captain America’s shield. Instead, it can block any attack and the damage blocker alone is worth having it around, but blocks aside, the Shield can also counter.

How To Play With Friends In Windblown
Players can eventually unlock the option to play multiplayer in Windblown. This guide goes over how to do it.
If players time it right, they can clap back with a strong combo with their other weapon. If players practice enough, they may be able to go all the way to the final boss with the Shield.
2 Sirocco
Start A Fire With This Magic Wand
The Sirocco is a fire-based rod and it should be one of the first weapons players discover. It will shoot out two twin flames at enemies at a decent speed and range, once again keeping players safe at a distance to make a player feel like a powerful mage.
It’s an even better-ranged weapon compared to other examples though because the fire damage can often cause a status effect: Burn. With Burn inflicted, enemies will take continuous damage until the flame is put out just like with the Anchor Boom.
1 Telepike
The Finest Melee Weapon In Early Access
The Telepike is the only pure melee weapon worth mentioning. Like spears in many games, it can give players a slight advantage with distance although not as good as fully ranged weapons. The spear can be thrown though if players let it charge up, an ability not all may realize.
It’s generally a strong weapon whenever players can find it and the secondary attack when combined with another can make a damaging aura appear around players. It’s a win in many departments, so players should try and unlock it as soon as possible if the blueprints turn up.
