Yesterday’s Nintendo Switch 2 Direct not only gave us a more in-depth look at the console, but we also got to see a number of first party and third-party games for it. A lot of games were featured in the Direct, but, as always, there were a couple of stand out ones like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza.

From Now On, Every Game Will Be A Little Bit Elden Ring

It has been claimed that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will take inspiration from Elden Ring, and it won’t be the last.

However, something nobody could have predicted was that we got not one, but two FromSoftware announcements. The first was a new multiplayer game by the developer called The Duskbloods. While we still don’t know much about this title, the second FromSoft announcement was that Elden Ring will be coming to the Switch 2 via the Tarnished Edition, along with some new cosmetics.

Will Elden Ring Fans Need To Switch 2 The Tarnished Edition For New Content?

The Tarnished Edition is Elden Ring’s port to Nintendo’s upcoming console, which will include the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion and a number of new cosmetics. This includes new armour sets, a skin for Torrent, and a few more goodies. However, as has been the case with the game, fans want to explore every bit and collect every item.

This has caused a bit of a stir in the community, as players are unsure whether these new items and cosmetics will be available for free on other platforms or if they’ll have to pay for them. The Twitter post on the Elden Ring handle reads, “New armour, a new Torrent appearance customisation feature and more will be available in Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 and as additional downloadable content for other platforms.”

This wording has made some fans think that they might have to pay for this content on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. Considering that FromSoftware does most of its storytelling via item descriptions, fans are worried that they might not get access to this information or the items in question unless they pay extra for it.

“If it’s a free complement, no problems. But if they charge for it I might unlock it with CreamAPI or something,” said one comment on a Reddit post that posed the question of if the content will be free for other platforms. “Yeah charging for this is wild,” said another. “Surely they’d make enough from the Switch port where they can afford to give the cosmetics free on other consoles.”

Currently, it’s a case of analyzing the words that the tweet has used, but fans will be hoping that the new features are available to all platforms for no added cost, especially since players shelled out for the base game and the expansion.
