Summary

  • Assassin’s Creed Invictus is potentially releasing in 2025.
  • Invictus is rumored to feature arcade game elements similar to those found in Fall Guys, along with a completely different aesthetic.

On the heels of Ubisoft’s most recent release, another Assassin’s Creed title may still be coming in 2025, with the long-rumored Assassin’s Creed Invictus potentially being the next entry in the franchise to hit store shelves. One of the most mysterious projects in the Assassin’s Creed lineup, Invictus may be primed to turn the entire series on its head.

Following the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows in March, fans of the franchise are eager to know where the franchise is heading next. Although controversy surrounded the newest entry, sales have seemed to be strong, and reviews for Shadows have been largely positive, with an average OpenCritic score of 82 at the time of writing. Ubisoft has been dealing with financial troubles exacerbated by last year’s underwhelming release of Star Wars Outlaws and the free-to-play shooter XDefiant, with the latter planned to shut down entirely in June. While many fans were prepared to wait years for another Assassin’s Creed entry, a new rumor implies that this may not be necessary.

If Assassin’s Creed Invictus Takes Off, Far Cry Could Be a Perfect Candidate For a Similar Game

Assassin’s Creed Invictus is set to be a multiplayer standalone spinoff of the stealth series, and if it works, Far Cry should get a similar game.

According to a Twitter post by Tom Henderson at Insider Gaming, Assassin’s Creed Invictus will still be released sometime in 2025. Little is known about this seemingly bizarre entry, with Assassin’s Creed Invictus rumored to take inspiration from Fall Guys, featuring arcade game elements and modes like Team Deathmatch and Free-for-All. The mysterious title’s aesthetic may also heavily differ from that found in other mainline games, featuring a more cartoonish tone. While players will be able to step into the shoes of many past Assassin’s Creed protagonists, many are baffled by this rumored design choice, and Ubisoft has offered very little information about the game. Invictus’ release in 2025 remains a rumor, though if it is releasing this year, some acknowledgment may be coming after Shadows has had some time to shine.

Assassin’s Creed Invictus May Still Be Released in 2025

While many fans aren’t impressed by what Assassin’s Creed Invictus may bring to the table, others see this massive departure from past entries as a golden opportunity. Many longtime players have wanted a completely multiplayer-focused experience, and as Invictus is rumored to be a standalone title, it has the potential to reach a larger audience than a multiplayer option in a standard single-player entry.

In late March, Ubisoft revealed a new Tencent-backed subsidiary that will oversee the Assassin’s Creed franchise going forward, as well as Rainbow Six and Far Cry. Developers from many of the company’s offices around the world will back this new company, and many are eager to see how things will evolve under this new management.
