The Powers of the Remaining God Fruits, Explained

Although Luffy’s Gomu Gomu no Mi was revealed to have always been a Mythical Zoan that allowed him to transform into the legendary Sun God Nika as recently as the Wano arc, hints of its true nature have been present since the start of the One Piece series. Similarly, there have been massive implications for other God Fruits in the series, most notably within the Elbaf mural and Harley Texts.

This shows that there are a few others implied to exist in the same tier of power as Luffy’s Nika fruit. In truth, the existence of these fruits is currently just speculation, though it is founded on solid evidence. So, although it’s impossible to know who the wielders of these fruits are until Oda reveals them, let’s go over what abilities can be entailed from their names and other contextual clues which make them the strongest fruits in One Piece.

What Could These Powers Look Like?

Before any speculation can begin, everything that is currently known about these Devil Fruits should first be stated to provide as much context as possible. First hinted at in Skypiea, the various Gods of the One Piece world were mentioned during the Mont Blanc Noland flashback, where a sacrifice was offered to them in order to protect Shandora from certain doom. Here, there was a mention of the Sun God, Rain God, Forest God, and Earth God.

While this remained a fun fan theory for years, Chapter 1138 of the Elbaf arc made almost every detractor believe in it, since the old mural described all of these Gods in the same vein as the Sun God, who everyone now knows to be real. Aside from their names, their brief mention in the Elbaf mural also gives an inkling about who they belong to in the current world as well as what powers they may have.

The first of these is the Earth God fruit, which seems to apply directly to Imu. Mentioned in the First World of the Harley Texts, it was stated that whoever the Earth God was, they decided to shroud the world in darkness with the help of something called the Serpent of Hellfire, whom many believe to be Pluton. As such, it could be that the Earth God fruit gives the user the ability to control the Ancient Weapon, or may even control much of the Earth itself, which is also alluded to by the Red Line.

This structure is seen to be unnatural to many residents of the world, so it’s possible that, by using the Earth God’s power, the user was able to create this unnatural stretch of land that encircles the globe. Others even posit that the Earth God fruit may have belonged to Imu’s parallel in the First World, who was the main enemy of the original Nika. Furthermore, the Forest God Fruit fits Imu just as well, since the only description of it states that, in the Second World, the Forest God sent forth powerful demons.

This is incredibly vague, but perhaps the ability to send forth demons alludes to Imu’s powers of bestowing their chosen subordinates with incredible demonic powers, such as the case with the Gorosei. Although these powers function identically to Mythical Zoan Devil Fruits, they are unique in the sense that they’re directly tied to Imu gifting the abilities to them, which gives them horrific monster transformations and also grants them immortality. But, they can also be taken away, which would kill them in the process.

Imu gaining this power makes thematic sense as well, considering their rumored proximity to the Eve Tree, which many believe passes through the Chamber of Flowers in Pangea Castle. The Eve Tree is also the much-theorized birthplace of Devil Fruits, so it’s very possible that, once the Devil Fruits are formed here, Imu somehow corrupts them and gives them to the Gorosei, which would work with the implied powers of the Forest God.

The last of the God Fruits mentioned in Skypiea is that of the Rain God, which was interestingly missing from the Harley Texts. However, the most prevailing theory is that this fruit belongs to Monkey D. Dragon, which could be seen in the only ever appearance he had when he used his mysterious powers in Loguetown. Nothing has been explained about this instance, only that Dragon was implied to have summoned a massive storm and torrential downpour that was able to blow away Marines and ended up saving Luffy’s life.

So, judging by this, it seems that the Rain God fruit may somehow allow its user to control the weather to an unprecedented level, which would easily make it one of the world’s strongest powers. The last of the God Fruits mentioned is that of the Sea God, which was only stated in the Harley Texts. This is a very contradictory ability if it is in a Devil Fruit, considering how the sea is the main weakness of these fruits. So, if someone had the power to control the seas, they would easily be the strongest character in the series.

A Different Way Of Looking At This

There is a very interesting alternative look at how the God Fruits could exist within the world of One Piece, and while it’s highly unlikely to be like this, there is still a small chance of it happening. This theory essentially states that, just like Luffy’s Nika fruit, the remaining God Fruits are hiding in plain sight, under the guise of other Devil Fruits that fans have already seen before in the story.

This is a wild claim, but not an entirely unrealistic one. For example, some fans think that the Earth God fruit could actually be the Gura Gura no Mi, which once belonged to Whitebeard, owing to its legendary, Earth-shaking power. It’s stated multiple times that if Whitebeard wanted to destroy the world, he very easily could have, but he always held back his true offensive might.

Similarly, it’s possible for Blackbeard to also have a God Fruit of some kind, though any relation that can be made of him with a God Fruit is a stretch at this stage in the story. This is because Blackbeard has the unique ability to house various Devil Fruits at once, which is something that is generally considered impossible in the One Piece world. As for connections to be made to the God Fruits that fans do know about, these are admittedly weak, but a God Fruit allowing him to do the impossible is a fun theory to think about.

Fans believe that some notable characters in the show have eaten God Fruits but are unaware of their true powers, just like Luffy. Buggy is a very popular example of this, but just like Blackbeard, the connection to any known God Fruit is still up in the air. While unlikely, this theory is a fun one to speculate on and, knowing Oda, isn’t too far in the realm of possibility.
