In the wide and wonderful world of One Piece, fighting has become more or less a hobby for most characters, especially the pirate crews. To prove their worth and superiority over their competitors, the Straw Hats, along with other pirate gangs, are not afraid to throw down now and again to put their strength and abilities on full display, but this is why having a doctor around at all times is so necessary.

Despite having the odds stacked against them, these One Piece underdogs overcame the adversity to grow and develop as characters.
Another reason why doctors are so valuable in the One Piece universe is because of the staggering number of viruses that exist within the world, most being natural, but some others being entirely man-made. All of this is to say that anyone who wants a chance of living a healthy and happy life while sailing across the vast open seas needs a friendly doctor around them at all times, but when stacking them all up, here is how they rank in terms of their expertise and abilities.

Doc Q
Despite Brief Screentime, Doc Q Must Be A Skilled Doctor To Have Kept The Blackbeard Crew Going For Long
- First Appearance: Episode 146
Doc Q is a rather odd character in the sense that, while he assumes the position of doctor on Blackbeard’s crew, he has been plagued with severe illness for, presumably, his entire life. Despite that, being able to patch up Blackbeard’s crew of ruffians for as long as he has demonstrates that he is no slouch when it comes to healing. In fact, Doc Q was even able to get Jesus Burgess back up to speed after he was scorched alive by Sabo’s Flame Flame Fruit back in Dressrosa, which just goes to show how he’s always prepared for treating any injuries that his violent crewmates pick up in their battles.
Unfortunately, not too much has been shown of Doc Q so far, considering he tends to assist his evil crewmates from behind the scenes, but it’s still made clear enough that this sick man is, ironically, very reliable when it comes to patching up others who are in peril.

Marco
Marco’s Mythical Devil Fruit Can Wipe Away Physical Injuries Like They’re Nothing
- First Appearance: Episode 151
Marco’s Phoenix Devil Fruit may allow him to dish out tons of damage on the battlefield, but it can also be used for healing purposes. However, while the “flames of resurrection” are capable of fixing up his physical wounds in no more than a few seconds, each time he uses it will drain his stamina. Additionally, Marco can only use the flames to heal physical injuries, not someone’s health, which is why he couldn’t give a helping hand to Whitebeard when he was hooked up to his life support system.

One Piece: 8 Most Important Story Arcs For Zoro, Ranked
Zoro has grown a lot as a character, both emotionally and power-wise, but it was these arcs that pushed him to develop as a character in One Piece.
Marco is capable of healing others, even if they have sustained severe injuries, but the time it takes for them to recover can vary, sometimes taking an hour, other times taking a few days. While he does have some drawbacks, it’s still hard to ignore the effectiveness of Marco’s healing capabilities, considering he can pull all this off without any equipment needed.

Miyagi
The Lovable Mink Becomes An Important Asset During The Zou And Wano Arcs
- First Appearance: Episode 756
Miyagi is a Mink who first appears in the Zou arc, and it’s not long after that he starts putting his experience as a doctor to good use. Not only did he, along with a bit of help from Chopper, cure an entire island of Minks from being poisoned by Jack, he would even be skilled enough to heal Zunesha’s leg, which is no small feat considering he’s a gigantic elephant.
He wouldn’t stop there, as Miyagi also proved his worth as a doctor after arriving in Onigashima to help counteract Queen’s Ice Oni virus. Needless to say, this lovable character is the best Mink doctor in the series, and though he’s only made appearances here and there, he still became a crucial ally who ensured his fellow Minks and pirate allies were always kept alive and well.
5
Crocus
Crocus Was Capable Of Keeping Roger Alive When He Was Suffering From A Terminal Disease
- First Appearance: Episode 62
Admittedly, Crocus hasn’t received all that much screentime in the story, though what is known about him presents him as an incredibly skilled doctor, considering he was tasked with keeping Roger alive during his journey aboard his ship. As stated by Rayleigh, the only doctor at the time who was known to be capable enough of at least slowing down Roger’s mysterious disease was Crocus, suggesting he had made quite a name for himself as a doctor.
In fact, if it wasn’t for Crocus, it’s highly unlikely Roger would have even managed to have reached Laugh Tale and finished his epic adventure across the Grand Line, meaning the great pirate era would never have even kicked off in the first place. Again, there’s not much to go off regarding Crocus, but even the small glimpses of him that have been shown prove that he’s a one-of-a-kind doctor who proved to be reliable when his captain needed him most.
4
Hogback
A Once-Renowned Doctor Who Began Using His Expertise For Evil Deeds
- First Appearance: Episode 1340
At the beginning of the Thriller Bark arc, Chopper reveals that Hogback, the doctor who resides aboard the creepy ghost ship, was once a world-renowned surgeon, that is, until he suddenly disappeared from the face of the earth. It turns out that Hogback would join up with Gecko Moria and his crew, and while he doesn’t exactly use his surgeon experience for the sake of good, it’s hard to deny that he’s still incredibly skilled when it comes to “fixing” people’s bodies.
Not only was Hogback able to create an army of fully-functioning zombies with his own hands, he has even experimented on several of his fellow crewmates, such as Absalom, to make their appearances more threatening and unique. If he ever decided to put his talents to good use, he could have saved countless lives, but instead, Hogback chose to dedicate his skills to the malicious Gecko Moria.
3
Tony Tony Chopper
The Lovable Straw Hat Member Is Always There To Protect His Crew From Being Badly Hurt
- First Appearance: Episode 81
Being a doctor who can cure every known disease on the planet is a pretty lofty goal, but it’s one that Tony Tony Chopper is determined to achieve no matter what. After training to become a doctor under Dr. Kureha on Drum Island, Chopper has had the opportunity to analyze and cure a ton of unique illnesses during his adventures with the Straw Hats. A prime example of this is when he created his own virus to counteract the Ice Oni virus that was being spread by Queen in the early stages of the Wano arc.

One Piece: 5 Minor Characters Who Made A Big Impact
For how insignificant they are in the greater story of One Piece, these characters have shaped it significantly through their actions.
Having a captain as hot-headed and reckless as Luffy has been somewhat of a double-edged sword for Chopper. On the one hand, the fact that Luffy picks up so many injuries and diseases gives Chopper a chance to improve his knowledge and skills, but it also means that he’s pretty much always in demand and never gets time to rest. While Chopper doesn’t quite have the experience of Kureha, considering she’s over 140 years old, he is still one of the series’ very best doctors who would make his mentor proud if she were able to see him today.
2
Kureha
Kureha Is Dedicated To Helping Get Her Patients Back On Their Feet As Soon As Possible
- First Appearance: Episode 81
Just as the Little Garden arc is wrapping up and the crew sets their sights on Alabasta, Nami suddenly falls ill, with the crew scrambling to try and find anyone who can help her. Once they land on Drum Island and meet a “Witch” named Kureha, the highly experienced doctor tells Nami that she would have died in another two days from the disease if she hadn’t helped her when she did. At this moment, it became clear that, over her 100+ years of doctoring, Kureha had come to learn almost everything there is to know about curing illnesses and injuries, as she also helped Sanji out with his cracked spine.
However, she also tells Sanji, after he tries to get out of bed to help his friends, that he must continue to rest since she’s someone who always ensures her patients are back to full health before letting them risk injuring themselves again. It’s no wonder why Chopper turned out to be such a helpful doctor for the Straw Hats, considering he was mentored by none other than the immensely talented and wicked-smart Kureha.

Trafalgar D. Law
Law Was Able To Cure A Seemingly Incurable Illness With His Devil Fruit Abilities
- First Appearance: Episode 392
Law isn’t only the captain of his crew, he is also their doctor, which makes a lot of sense considering his Devil Fruit is pretty much perfectly suited for the profession. The Ope Ope no Mi allows Law to essentially re-arrange and restructure anything and anyone within a close radius. As seen on Punk Hazard, this means he can take out people’s organs without actually killing them, essentially meaning he can perform surgery pretty easily without needing to get his hands dirty.
By far, Law’s biggest feat as a doctor, and one which puts him at the very top of this list, is the fact he was able to cure an incurable disease, more specifically, the White Lead disease he contracted as a child, using his newly acquired Fruit. While he may often be busy leading his crew or dealing with the Straw Hats’ antics, Law can still always be called on to heal someone if they find themselves injured or infected. If there’s anyone who has the best chance at finding a way to cure an illness, it would have to be Law, thanks to his abilities and experience in the field.
