A new build has been rising up in popularity for Ahri: here’s everything you need to know about it and why it’s strong.
Ahri AP Bruiser Build – why does it work?
The mid lane champion has been a staple pick over the past few years. While she’s rarely the most powerful choice, Ahri‘s versatility and playmaking potential have always made her a reliable champion that fits different team compositions.
One of her main issues, however, is the difference in late-game scaling potential compared to other mid lane mages, and thus her ability to carry games. Even if she were to gain gold leads and snowball the game, her curve would fall off later in the game, often leading her to die during the fights and be unable to dish out damage.
To deal with her lack of survivability, players have found a new AP build that is taking the ranked ladder by storm. Instead of going with a full ability power (AP) build that focuses on damage, players have been building Rod of Ages, followed by Liandry’s Torment and Riftmaker.
The new build explained
The main upside of the new build is that it makes Ahri much harder to burst down due to the added health, and Ahri doesn’t lose much in terms of damage output during extended fights. On top of that, the Rod of Ages’ passive gives additional sustain for Ahri, which, paired with her own built-in sustain, makes her almost unkillable.

While there are several advantages, the build is mainly focused around the scaling and hitting the two and three-item spikes. If the team requires you to have more burst damage to make picks, it’s probably better to go with the other build path.
With the new build, her win rate has gone up by a big margin, recording 53% at Emerald and above, according to lolalytics over 10,000 games. What’s more important is her low ban rate: she has become stronger but shouldn’t be close to OP territory, meaning you will often find a chance to play her.
