Demon Slayer is well-known for its amazing animation and fights that keep you on the edge of your seat. Of course, the way a fight looks isn’t everything. Having huge stakes and character moments throughout the fight makes the overall battle much better.

Demon Slayer pulls this off masterfully, along with some great power dynamics that make fights unpredictable. Every major fight in Demon Slayer dramatically moves the plot along, making the impact that much bigger.

Tanjiro Vs. Rui
Season One, Episode Nineteen
Tanjiro vs Rui is arguably the very first big battle of the Demon Slayer anime. Not only do we meet our first moon in this fight, but Tanjiro also switches from water breathing to sun breathing. All of this is accompanied by Nezuko activating her blood demon art.
Of course, the animation and visuals are all exceptional. But it also uses an amazing soundtrack to elevate the emotions during the scenes. Once the episode ends, the fight fades into an original artwork montage of Tanjiro’s family instead of the usual ending.

Zenitsu Vs. Spider Demon
Season One, Episode Seventeen
This isn’t the first time Zenitsu shows off his thunder breathing technique, but the fight shows the extent of its abilities. We also get a quick backstory for Zenitsu that goes into his master’s philosophy and also teases a future character.

While Zenitsu is certainly on the defense until he’s able to charge up his technique, he manages to defeat the spider demon in the coolest way possible. The fight itself is quick, but the way it’s animated and heightened with the help of the soundtrack is nothing short of amazing.
8
Giyu Vs. Rui
Season One, Episode Twenty
Giyu makes quick work of Rui after Tanjiro nearly gives his life to defeat him, all while showing a new height of water breathing by using the eleventh form that he created himself. All of this is still not as cool as Giyu casually walking up to Rui and slicing his head off.
Giyu shows everyone that the Hashira are in a league of their own. While it was known that they were strong before, making quick work of someone like Rui solidified how far away they were. Of course, Giyu tops it off with a quick swing of his sword to clean the blood off.
7
Muichiro Vs. Gyokko
Season Three, Episode Nine
This is the first time an upper moon was defeated by a slayer who had zero help from anyone else. We also get Muichiro’s backstory during this fight, which is one of the most brutal backstories of Demon Slayer yet.
Even though this was not the main fight of season three, the impact and Muichiro’s development solidify it as one of the best in Demon Slayer. It’s also very satisfying to see an evil demon like Gyokko bite the dust.
6
Inosuke And Tanjiro Vs. Enmu
Season Two, Episode Five
The fight was single-handedly carried by Inosuke. Not only did he cut all of Enmu’s eyes, but he also saved Tanjiro’s life. It also helps that Enmu fused with the train and became a big creature, allowing the animation studio to go in on aerial shots.

It was also the second time Tanjiro used sun breathing, this time with a proper technique called “Clear Blue Sky.” Not to mention, we get a beautiful scene at the end of the fight with Rengoku keeping Enmu from killing all the hostages.
5
Tanjiro Vs. Daki
Season Two, Episode Thirteen
Tanjiro gets so angry in this fight that the blood vessels in his eyes burst, making him bleed and giving him a very scary look. He also forgets to breathe and enters a state where he seems untouchable. He gets so strong that a full-powered Daki stands no chance against him.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen Tanjiro angry, but never before has his rage reached this level. The fight also includes a brief flashback to Yoriichi, triggered by Muzan’s cells, that are so terrified they recall memories of Yoriichi by seeing Tanjiro.
4
Nezuko Vs. Daki
Season Two, Episode Fourteen
Nezuko shows her adult transformation for the first time in this fight. Well, this is less of a fight and more of a brutal beat-down of Daki. It’s surreal to see Nezuko become a true demon, but it’s also exciting to see her be this strong.
The fight shows quick flashbacks to Daki’s past while Nezuko burns her, making the one-sided beat-down even worse. Thankfully, Tanjiro manages to hold Nezuko back and calm her down in a beautiful scene.
3
Mitsuri Vs. Hantengu
Season Three, Episode Ten
Mitsuri arrives right in time to save Tanjiro and the others from Hantengu. During the fight, we also get a quick flashback to Mitsuri’s past, which surprisingly isn’t too brutal or sad. Her childhood is relatively peaceful and wholesome, which is perfect for her character.
This fight is also the first time we see how cool Mitsuri can truly be, as she shows elegant gymnastic movements with that long but flexible sword. Safe to say that it’s a fight-style that we have yet to see in the Demon Slayer anime or manga.
2
Rengoku Vs. Akaza
Season Two, Episodes Six And Seven
One of the most iconic fights in Demon Slayer, Rengoku vs Akaza, is nothing short of a beautiful masterpiece. Rengoku goes all out during this fight, cycling through every single fire breathing form he can. He even shows the ninth form, which he named after himself.

The OST during the fight mixes Akaza and Rengoku’s themes. Whenever one of the characters makes a big move, the music shifts to focus on their theme seamlessly. The iconic struggle at the end is also thrilling, with both Rengoku and Akaza’s voice actors putting in the performance of a lifetime.
1
Tengen Vs. Gyutaro
Season Two, Episode Seventeen
This climax of this fight shook the internet to its core. With just one arm, Tengen fights Gyutaro toe to toe in one of the most breathtaking fights in all of anime. The surroundings are all burning down while the sparks from Tengen and Gyutaro’s clashes allow Ufotable to create firework-like explosions.
Even with Tengen’s face nearly cut in half, he tackles Gyutaro and yells at Tanjiro to jump. Very few moments in anime are as hardcore and cool as this. Both Tengen and Gyutaro’s Japanese voice actors also deliver an incredible performance.
