PUBG Mobile Teases the Return of Godzilla
The speculations started when PUBG Mobile posted an image on their official X page saying “The ocean shudders—what will rise?” along with an image. In the image, we can see Godzilla lurking under the waters near the Military Base bridge in Erangel. After this image, we can expect that the legendary monster will make a comeback in the game.
But It’s not the Godzilla you have seen before
As per the image, this time, the collaboration is not with Legendary’s MonsterVerse. PUBG Mobile previously collaborated with MonsterVerse during Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong. However, the official poster highlights that the collaboration is happening with Toho, the company that owns the rights to Shin Godzilla.
Toho Godzilla refers to the original Japanese version of the Godzilla franchise, created by Toho Co., Ltd. It is distinct from Hollywood adaptations, such as those by Legendary Pictures (MonsterVerse). Toho first introduced Godzilla in 1954 with Gojira, a film that served as a metaphor for nuclear destruction. Since then, the franchise has evolved across multiple eras, maintaining its legacy as a cultural icon.
Moreover, Shin Godzilla, released in 2016, won several prestigious awards, including Best Picture at the 40th Japan Academy Film Prize.
The recent PUBG Mobile’s 3.7 update has brought back some old Erangel locations in-game which includes the iconic bridges. Based on the teaser, we are expecting Godzilla might return to this area, similar to previous collaborations.
