Summary
- Legendary Hero boosts ATTACK by 4 & restores 40 HPs
- Sea Tea increases speed by 25%, restoring 10 HP
- Butterscotch-Cinnamon Pie heals all HP & free
Despite having a reputation for being a wholesome and cute RPG, battles in Undertale can be rough. Random battles and scripted fights both have the potential to take unwary players down. With that in mind, it is always good to have a healing item on hand.

The genocide route in Undertale can be as difficult as it is emotionally devastating without a bit of knowledge going in.
This spoiler-free overview of the best healing items in Undertale should inform players about which items to look out for, their rarity, where to get them, how much they cost, and, perhaps most importantly, when to use the more premium varieties.

Butterscotch-Cinnamon Pie
Hold Onto This Sentimental Slice For As Long As Possible
- Heals: All health
- Cost: Free
- Availability: Unique
- Found at: Toriel’s Home
This sweet little treat is obtainable pretty much right at the start of the game. Players will find a slice of Butterscotch-Cinnamon Pie by their bed the first time they take a nap, but this is the only one they will get in the whole game (but not at all with Undertale‘s Hard Mode activated).
This slice of pie is a particularly potent item that restores all hit points (HP) in one go, and as such, it should be saved until a particularly difficult fight. Using this pie around monsters of Toriel’s kind will have a special effect, and it may be worth keeping it (at least stored) until meeting one, much later.

Instant Noodles
Not A Great Regular Meal, But Great In A Serious Pinch
- Heals: 15 out of battle, 4 or 90 HP in battle
- Cost: Free
- Availability: Unique
- Found at: Hotland lab refrigerator
The mileage players will get out of this instant meal will vary depending on where they use it, or more specifically, which kind of battle they use it in. Outside of a fight, Instant Noodles will restore 15 HP. In a normal battle, they only restore 4 HP. In “serious” fights, players can restore a whopping 90 HP.
Finding the right time to cook up the Instant Noodles can be tricky, but if items take on more “serious” names, that indicates that the Instant Noodles should be at their most effective. A packet of these flavorsome carbohydrates can be found in the laboratory fridge in Hotland, and there is only one.

Spider Donut
Inconsistent Pricing, But Great Value
- Heals: 12 HP (and cures Miss Muffet’s wrath)
- Cost: 7G (then significantly more later)
- Availability: Buyable in two locations
- Found at: The Ruins (affordable), Hotland (unaffordable)
At 12 HP restored per use, the Spider Donut may not seem like the best healing item ever, but considering their price (7G), it isn’t a bad deal. Of course, they are only available at this price in the Ruins, the starting area, and gathering enough gold at this point can be tricky.

Later, at another bake sale location, these donuts will cost significantly more. Players may find it useful to know that eating this creepy-crawly confectionary in front of a particularly prominent member of the spider community mid-battle will make the tricky fight significantly easier.
4
Bisicle / Unisicle
So Nice It Can Restore Health Twice
- Heals: 11 HP (x2)
- Cost: 15G (increases after beating bosses)
- Availability: Buyable
- Found at: Snowdin’s shop
Available for purchase in Snowdin’s shop, the Bisicle is a reliable healing item in a pinch. Its ability to restore 11 HP is enough to patch over a few nasty hits, but best of all, once used, it turns into a “Unisicle” and can be used again to restore an additional 11 HP, which saves on inventory space.
The Bisicle costs 15G when the player first visits the town, but its price increases after certain story bosses are defeated, doubling (30G) then tripling (45G) in price, and finally stabilizing at 70G. During “serious” fights, this item is known as a “Popsicle.”
3
Dog Salad
A Great, If Annoying, Long-Term Health Item
- Heals: 2, 10, 30, or all HP (random chance)
- Cost: Free
- Availability: Potentially infinite, replaces empty inventory slot when using Dog Residue
- Found at: Waterfall, behind the piano puzzle room
Using this health item feels like exploiting a glitch, but it is a totally legal way to play Undertale. If the player can complete the piano puzzle in the Waterfall area, they will obtain a powerful item to help them in their adventure: Dog Residue. It may not sound like the most appealing video game food, but it does the trick.

Undertale packs a lot of emotional and deep moments, delivered through quotes that are sure to leave a lasting impact on players.
This item seemingly does nothing when used, but all of the player’s inventory space will be either filled with more Dog Residue (for later use) or “Dog Salad.” Dog Salad has a four-in-one chance of restoring 2 HP, 10 HP, 30 HP, or all missing hit points. It can take a while (and a lot of fiddling) to restock Dog Salad, but it can be very useful in a pinch.
2
Sea Tea
A Little Weak On HP Restoration, But Builds Momentum In Waves
- Heals: 10 HP (but buffs speed by 25%)
- Cost: 18G
- Availability: Buyable
- Found at: Waterfall Shop
This healing item is found in the Waterfall shop and is available for purchase from a seasoned turtle adventurer. While Sea Tea costs 18G and only restores 10 HP per use, it increases the player’s speed in battle by 25%, a buff that stacks up to 100%.
In other words, the player can double their speed with four uses. Sea Tea is especially useful in Undertale‘s difficult, long-haul battles (particularly the nightmare-difficulty hidden boss fights) that require persistence and agility where the player needs to patch up their health and gather momentum for a tighter defense from the get-go.
1
Legendary Hero
A Mighty Snack For A Mighty Hungry Adventurer
- Heals: 40 HP (and increases ATTACK by 4)
- Cost: 300G
- Availability: Buyable
- Found at: The MTT Resort Burger Joint
This sword-shaped sandwich is encountered around midway through the game and is the ultimate healing consumable. It restores an impressive 40 HP and also buffs the player’s ATTACK by four points until the battle ends.
Players are rarely ever forced into violence, and there are plenty of pacifist options throughout the game. However, those who wish to do battle with monsters should strongly consider purchasing this item (as many times as they can), so long as they can spare the 300G asking price.
