What is Pengu Garen in LoL?
Pengu Garen is an April Fools skin for League of Legends made by Riot in 2025. Aside from the incredible looking splash art that sees Garen’s head being swapped out by Pengu, Riot decided to make the skin free across all modes except for Solo queue, Ranked Flex, and Clash.
This is because the skin in the game actually has a smaller hitbox compared to the regular Garen skin, which would be quite an unfair advantage for those who are using the April Fools skin.
Other April Fools skin on their way
Just like every year, Riot Games is releasing their year April Fools skins which are coming their way in Patch 25.07. For this year’s occasion, the LoL community will be getting some “big boys” for their April Fools, with Urgot, Braum, as well as Naafiri and Shaco as part of the lineup. The most particular one is definitely the legendary skin for Shaco, which is based on Tom & Jerry, but most importantly, is considered one of the highest quality skins Riot has released lately. Great news for us, especially following the backlash the company received in February.

How long will Pengu Garen be available?
The bad thing about special-themed skins is that they are usually limited. And Pengu Garen is no exception: he will be only playable for two weeks and will likely be removed. So if you want to get a chance to play him, jump on game modes from April 2nd to April 16th. If he gets a lot of hype… who knows, we might see him return in the future.
