A limited-time crossover event welcoming Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba to the MMORPG MapleStory has been announced, and will offer an exciting number of themed items. Demon Slayer is an anime adaptation produced by Ufotable that first aired in 2019, and follows teenager Tanjiro Kamado, whose goal is to become an esteemed warrior after his younger sister Nezuko was turned into a demon. The MapleStory crossover promises an unmissable chance to see the Demon Slayers come to life in cute sprites, as players battle through side-scrolling gameplay.
MapleStory is a free-to-play title that was first released over ten years ago, where gamers travel to the titular world to hunt monsters, develop their characters’ skills, and unite with other players in guilds to share rewards. MapleStory’s publisher Nexon was hit with layoffs in October 2024, and the South Korean studio also owns popular games Dave the Diver and The First Descendant. Furthermore, the Demon Slayer crossover is expected to bring some fresh interest to the MMO.

The MapleStory x Demon Slayer crossover event is available to play now and will run until April 28, 2025. Joining the healthy list of jobs for explorers in MapleStory, the crossover will allow players to create a character using the limited-time Tanjiro job, which offers skills such as Water Breathing and Hinokami Kagura. A few other features to note during the event include a Tanjiro-exclusive event for players to level up their character through the Progress Journal and Mission Journal, a Maple Expedition featuring Zenitsu and Inosuke, and some mini-games titled Demon Slayer Training Test and Kanao’s Coin Flip Challenge, which are both based on a scene from the anime.

Tanjiro Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, Inosuke Hashibira and more join the list of Demon Slayer’s best characters, and the mentioned combatants are expected to feature heavily in the crossover, much to fans’ delight. While the thought of seeing these slayers mingle in MapleStory’s world was an inviting one, some fans of the MMORPG reported not being able to even log into the game and called for the devs to provide a fix so they could try the Water Breathing themselves.
Demon Slayer has gained its rightful place alongside some of the best animes ever adapted, including the likes of Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen, and the IP’s upcoming movie releases will likely continue its popularity. Demon Slayer‘s Infinity Castle movie trilogy is expected to break records, covering the final arcs of the manga by Koyoharu Gotouge, and the first of the three epics is set to release on July 18, 2025.
