Best Elemental Heavy Bowgun Build in Monster Hunter Wilds

Heavy Bowguns in Monster Hunter Wilds are the best choice when it comes to overwhelming firepower. These are handheld cannons that can be loaded with a variety of ammunition, and when built properly, they can decimate monsters in minutes.

This is a Monster Hunter Wilds HBG build that focuses on dealing as much elemental damage as possible. While it’s not the only way to use this weapon type, Elemental HBG is very easy to use (albeit very draining on resources).

MH Wilds Elemental HBG Build

Before anything else, take note that your choice of weapon here is largely dependent on the match-up. Always bring a bowgun that can exploit your target’s elemental weakness.

The base armor set for this build is very similar to other meta setups, though the decorations list above makes it cater more towards an elemental HBG by having Coalescence and Quick Sheath.

Coalescence and the Black Eclipse set bonus from the Gore Magala armor make up the secret sauce for this build. The former activates once Frenzy from the latter is cleansed, giving players both elemental damage and Affinity at once. The build’s full potential shines when attacking wounds and weakspots of angry monsters during windows where Coalescence and Black Eclipse have their buffs active.

For better comfort and survivability during solo hunts, replace Exploiter Charm I with Leaping Charm III. You’ll lose a point of Weakness Exploit in exchange for Evade Extender 3, which will greatly improve the range of dodges and sidesteps.

Heavy Bowgun Setup

A Rarity 8 HBG setup with Attack infusions and elemental ammo is ideal for this build, but if you don’t have access to R8 Artians yet, you can make do with any R8 Smithy HBG. Either way, make sure to use the Elemental Powder upgrade.

Players should, at the very least, get Attack Boost 3, Tetrad Shot 3, and Elemental Attack 3 on their Artian Bowgun’s decoration slots. If possible, use Level 3 combo jewels that combine the three Equipment Skills above with Guard and/or Guard Up.

Offensive Guard/Maximum Might Build Alternative

This is an Elemental HBG variant of the Offset Greatsword build that takes advantage of the interaction between Maximum Might and the Fulgur Anjanath set. Fulgur Anjanath’s Will gives players an extra stamina bar, and it just so happens that Maximum Might only deactivates when the main stamina bar dips below 100%.

With this setup, players will be able to trigger Offensive Guard without losing Maximum Might, but only on a Perfect Guard. Keep in mind that the extra stamina bar will also let you dodge roll away up to two times without deactivating Maximum Might, so don’t be afraid to do so if you think you can’t perfectly block an incoming hit.
