The power dynamic in the Call of Duty League can change in the blink of an eye. There’s always an opportunity for an underdog to steal a historic win at any moment, and that’s what makes it such a volatile esports tournament. Even the biggest and most talented Call of Duty teams can and have been beaten numerous times – but the list that follows represents the best Call of Duty teams at the start of the 2025 season.

1. Atlanta FaZe

Atlanta FaZe has arguably been the most consistent team in Call of Duty esports since 2020 and the birth of the Call of Duty League. In 2021, the team underwent a monumental transformation, securing one of the most dominant streaks we’ve ever seen in esports, ending the season with a win-loss record of 34 – 7 and claiming three Major wins before lifting the Champs trophy at the end of the season. In the 2023 season, the team snatched a Major win to prove they’ve still got the skills where they count.

The combination of aBeZy, Cellium, and Simp has proven to be a winning formula, making Atlanta FaZe one of the best Call of Duty teams on Earth. In the current season, FaZe are clearly the standout team.

They’re coming off the back of a huge 1st place at the Esports World Cup in 2024, plus a win at the Stage 1 Major or the CDL in 2025. They’re off to a fantastic start for the year and will likely be one of the best teams for the rest of the season ahead.

2. OpTic Texas

OpTic is the beloved golden child of Call of Duty esports and has been so for years. It’s the most recognisable brand in gaming alongside FaZe and it’s a staple of the COD scene – and that’s why it simply must field the best teams. In 2025, the OpTic Texas roster is looking sharp and refined. They’ve stuck with a consistent spread of players for years now. Giving them the space to develop. It took them a few years to get back there. But they’ve won the 2024 playoffs, their first title since 2022. That’s not for a lack of trying, though.

Time and again, OpTic Texas proves it’s a championship-worthy team. They’ve really risen in standings after that last Playoff win, having also performed very well at the Majors throughout the year.

3. New York Subliners

Following a stellar performance during the 2023 season, the New York Subliners cemented themselves as one of the best Call of Duty team in the world. In 2024, they’ve pushed that even further with more high finishes. The 23 season that resulted in a title began with a monumental win at Major I. It saw the Subliners pull off one of the most dramatic lower-bracket runs in Call of Duty history. Then, if that wasn’t enough, the team did it again at Major V, beating six teams back-to-back while under the constant threat of a single loss pushing them out of the tournament.

At COD Champs 2023, the Subliners dominated the tournament and won the entire event in truly historic fashion, beating Toronto Ultra 5 – 0 in one of the fastest Champs Finals ever. It was a testament to the work that the Subliners put in to remain consistent throughout the season, working internally on their team dynamic as much as they did their abilities in-game.

In the, current season, the roster is made up of some of the best Call of Duty players in the world. They took 2nd place at the 2024 Play-Offs. Very solid given their 2023 result too.

4. Toronto Ultra

Toronto Ultra has been a consistent Call of Duty League team for years, but the squad’s form peaked during the 2023 season following the signing of Thomas ‘Scrap’ Ernst. During this season, the team produced a remarkable record and proved to be nigh unstoppable, securing a win at Major III and ultimately ending up in second place at COD Champs. They ended up taking 2nd in 2023’s playoffs, a very strong result. Then, Major wins in 2024 and 3rd at the 2024 playoffs.

At present, the team is a contender for the top spot. They’re not quite at that level yet. However, Toronto Ultra have spent enough time as runners up that a win at the playoffs could be in the cards for them.

5. Vancouver Surge

While they might be in our final slot for the best Call of Duty teams, Vancouver surge are still far and away above the rest of the league. The team had a mixed 2024, coming in 3-4th at the Esports World Cup, but 7-8th at the Playoffs. In the years prior to this, they’ve flirted with stronger finishes, but rarely made it all the way. However, with a fresh squad, Vancouver Surge are looking strong for the year ahead.

The team mixed up the bulk of its players recently. Now we’ve got 04, Abuzah, and nastie who joined late last year, with Neptune who only came aboard in February. New squads like this can be tricky at time, but Vancouver Surge are looking promising for the 2025 season. Sometimes it’s the risk of new players that has the biggest payoffs.
