A lot of monster drops are unique to just one monster in Monster Hunter Wilds, but the late-game area of Wyveria introduces Guardians. From a material standpoint, guardians are made out of similar materials, and while they do have unique items to farm from them, they also have a few similar items.
Guardian Scales are one of the more common materials that can be easily framed as long as you know where to look. Here’s what monsters to fight and how to farm Guardian Scales off of them.

What Monsters Drop Guardian Scales In Monster Hunter Wilds
There are three guardian-type monsters that drop Guardian Scales. Guardian Scales are a Low Rank material, so after beating the game, you’ll need to begin optional hunts in order to go back to Low Rank and fight these monsters again to get Guardian Scales.
- Guardian Ebony Odogaron
- Guardian Rathalos
- Zoh Shia
At the time of writing this article, there is no way to fight another Zoh Shia outside of the final main quest, so it’s not a reliable method for farming Guardian Scales despite how many it drops in a fight. Guardian Ebony Odogarons and Guardian Rathalos can both be found in the Ruins of Wyveria, and both will drop a Guardian Scale
when wounds are destroyed or when the quest for hunting them is completed.

How To Farm Guardian Scales In Monster Hunter Wilds
Guardian Scales are the most likely drop for a Guardian Ebony Odogaron and a Guardian Rathalos. If you want to focus on getting as many as possible in a single fight against either monster, simply focus on creating and breaking as many wounds as possible in non-breakable parts of the body. While breakable parts of the body still have a chance of dropping Guardian Scales, they will have a higher likelihood of dropping another corresponding material instead.
While it may only deal gray damage, try aiming your attacks at the bodies of both creatures. Once a wound opens up, your damage will greatly increase, and breaking those wounds from the body has a very good chance of dropping a Guardian Scale
. Both of these monsters also have optional quests that can be completed to easily find them and hunt them as many times as you’d like.
Optional quests can be started anytime you’re not already in a quest when talking to Alma. You’ll unlock an optional quest for both of these monsters after fighting them for the first time.
