Like every Monster Hunter game, there are a copious number of materials to gather in Monster Hunter Wilds. The vast majority of these come from monsters, and you’ll be hunting them plenty to craft all the items you need. Of course, the world and its regions are as much a character as any monster, and they have lots of materials to find as well.

Many of these items are ores, from the simplest Iron Ore to the rarer Carbalite Ore. In this scenario though, you’re obviously looking for the Firestone, and maybe even the more scant Firecell Stone. These aren’t common, but you should have stacks of them soon if you know where to look.
How To Get Firestone And Firecell Stone
Being an ore, Firestones and Firecell Stones are found in Mining Outcrops. As the name implies, this is a rather hot piece of ore, and so can only be found in the Oilwell Basin. It is mineable from any Mining Outcrop, though it becomes much more common once you reach High Rank. The rarer Firecell Stone is the same, though only starts to appear at all once you reach High Rank.
Firestone and Firecell stone are specifically mined from Mining Outcrops. They cannot be found on Hopper Crystal Ore points.
These aren’t the most exceptionally hidden ores, but their drop chances can be somewhat low, especially if you’re not mining consistently. Thankfully, you can boost your chances of finding these precious ores with a few different options. The first is to make sure you’re searching during the Plenty, as just about every gathering point is more bountiful during this. Sparkles especially indicate that a Mining Outcrop may have rarer and more ore for you to collect.
Your Palico is a great help while farming as well. As you’ve probably noticed, they are very keen on gathering items when you’re near them, but they don’t actually reduce the number of times you can gather. This means your Palico gathering is effectively an extra item for free, so let them do their thing first whenever you enter an area with lots of gathering points.
Your Palico has its own Field Pouch, as do you, which you can check from the menu at any time to see if you’ve picked up the ore you’re looking for.
The Azuz set, and the pants in particular, are your next best friend. These offer you the maxed-out Geologist skill, which gives you more items from just about every Gathering Point, Mining Outcrops included. Make sure to pair this with a meal featuring a Truffle du Conga to activate the Gatherer Meal Bonus.
Once you hit High Rank, there’s no real distinction between Firestone and Firecell Stone in terms of drops, so you may as well attempt to gather both of them since they drop from all the same places, and are often times needed to craft the same items. There is also, rarely, a chance for Firestone to be a material you can trade for with NPCs from Azuz.
Uses For Firestone And Firecell Stone
After a sweltering visit through the Oilwell Basin, you should hopefully have stacks of both Firestone and Firecell Stone. The next step is to actually put them to use in making some brand-new gear. Interestingly, despite Firestone being more common than Firecell Stone, both materials are often needed to together in the same pieces of equipment.
Both ores are used in making both weapons and armour. For example, Firestone is used in making the earlier Quematrice weapons. Meanwhile, Firecell Stone is commonly used in many pieces of armour, such as the Kranodath Mail. However, many pieces of armour actually combine both materials, which is why gathering both goes hand-in-hand. The Gravios set requires both Firestone and Firecell Stone.
Both of these materials are used in monsters with the Fire element, though is most commonly used for monsters that come from the Oilwell Basin itself.
