Popular political Twitch streamer Hasan Piker has been unbanned following his controversial remarks about U.S. Senator Rick Scott. Piker’s ban lasted just a single day and came after his call for Senator Scott’s death, which the streamer agrees was “out of line.” This is hardly the first time Piker has been banned on Twitch, with the live-streaming service also dishing out the ban hammer to numerous other creators in recent months.

Hasan Piker first made a name for himself with his gaming live streams, though the content creator has a long history in political content, working with organizations like The Young Turks. Eventually, he moved to become a full-time political commentator and streamer, something Piker has seen immense success with. Piker’s coverage of the 2024 presidential election solidified himself as a prominent figure in not just the Twitch community but also the U.S. political sphere. However, Piker continues to be one of the most controversial figures on the platform, making harsh comments and statements that place him firmly on the “far left” side of the aisle. Piker’s comments about Rick Scott are the latest example, though the streamer agrees he went too far.

Twitch has reversed its ban on Hasan Piker following his insinuation Senator Rick Scott should be killed, comments he recently addressed in a video titled “I got canceled.” During a stream earlier this week, Piker said that anyone who cared about Medicare or Medicaid fraud would “kill Rick Scott.” Piker agrees that his statement went too far and says that he will try to be more careful going forward. “Ok, so obviously I shouldn’t have used hyperbolic language, and there’s definitely some ownership I must take,” he stated. However, these types of comments are somewhat par for the course when it comes to Piker, someone who has a history of making controversial, divisive, and harsh political statements.

“I should not have said, ‘Mike Johnson should kill Rick Scott.’ I should have simply said that Mike Johnson should punish Rick Scott,” Piker clarified. Whether or not fans and watchers actually think this is what he meant is up to them, with Piker having a long history when it comes to making these types of harsh and rash statements. One of the streamer’s most notorious moments saw Piker make the claim that America deserved what happened on September 11, 2001, a comment that lives on both as a meme and as ammunition for his opponents to use against him.

“As one of the largest progressive leftist political content creators online, in what feels like a sea of reactionary sentiment, I promise you I will try to use more deliberate and more careful language going forward,” Piker said at the end of the video. Other Twitch streamers have faced the ban hammer recently as well, with Asmongold’s comments about Palestine prompting an extensive suspension last year. Whether or not Piker actually follows through with what he’s claiming remains to be seen, with this recent ban being his fifth suspension. Piker’s longest suspension occurred in 2021, lasting a full week. However, his most recent bans have only lasted a day.
