Whether it’s the booming soundtrack running at a million beats per minute, the fluid combat system, or the very cheesy story that permeates through each entry, Capcom’s Devil May Cry is easily one of my favorite gaming franchises. Marrying together the combat of the classic God of War games with the razzmatazz of Bayonetta, the most recent entry, Devil May Cry 5 is one of the greatest action games I’ve ever experienced (if not my overall favorite), and you can now get it for less than $10 / £10.

For me, Devil May Cry 5 is easily one of the best PC games ever made, so I reckon you should pull the (Devil) trigger and buy it while it’s on sale. Even if you’re unfamiliar with Dante’s earlier adventures and haven’t experienced his origin story, the intense gameplay alone is reason enough to pick it up.

In Devil May Cry 5, Dante reunites with Nero, a teenager who arrived in the fourth game and has started a mobile branch of the demon-hunting business. Along with a shady new character called V, they attempt to defeat a powerful demon called Urizen. However, things quickly go south, and Dante is ejected from the demon’s monolithic tower while Nero and V barely manage to escape. This is where the game starts, and the trio’s individual character arcs (V’s is especially good) weave together to create a truly brilliant narrative experience.

You’d be forgiven for looking at Devil May Cry’s monstrous enemies and world-ending stakes and thinking it’s a horror game, but as soon as you start the first level, you’ll see it’s something quite different. Between cheesy cutscenes that make light of the dangerous world the characters reside in, Devil May Cry 5’s combat sees you pulling off seemingly impossible combos with ease.

There are three characters to play as in the base game of Devil May Cry 5 (four, if you count the amazing Vergil DLC which comes with this bundle), all of which have their own distinct style. Nero uses various Devil Breaker prosthetic arms to quickly change each combat encounter, Dante’s impressive arsenal gives him different tools to decimate the demons in his way, and V uses three demonic familiars to tackle levels, all of which still offer that same buttery-smooth combat you’ll end up loving. I’ve not played many action games with quite as much variety.

The combat is enhanced with the addition of a Style Ranking system, that reaches new heights as you stylishly dispatch your foes. The music that plays during every battle also compliments the action perfectly. Tracks like Devil Trigger blast through your headphones with the force of a demon hunter landing strikes, and you’ll fall in love with the bass-booming battle theme for Vergil with Bury the Light.

My words really can’t do this game justice, and as one of my favorite single-player games in the last decade, Devil May Cry 5 is a truly spectacular piece of work. That’s why I’d advise you to grab Devil May Cry 5 and the Vergil DLC for just $8.54 / £6.83 over on Fanatical.

If you’re eager to jump into the fray and take on some demons, then this deal isn’t one to miss out on. Make sure you find the Devil May Cry 5 secret ending if you think you’re good enough at this action extravaganza or check out our best hack-and-slash games for similar experiences.
