Summary
- Avengers: Doomsday release date may be delayed due to uncertainty about the cast.
- Confusion around roster; only Robert Downey Jr. confirmed.
- Concerns about lack of preparedness for filming without a locked cast.
The Avengers: Doomsday release date could be delayed, as a new rumor claims the ensemble cast hasn’t been determined for a critical reason.
Avengers: Doomsday is expected to assemble several fan-favorite MCU heroes against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. While reports have named certain actors and others like Captain America’s Anthony Mackie have confirmed they’re in Avengers: Doomsday, figuring out the roster has partly been a guessing game because Downey Jr. is currently the only officially listed cast member. With filming scheduled to begin in April 2025, fans might have hoped to get a better sense of which MCU heroes will return for Avengers: Doomsday. However, Marvel Studios may not even be certain of which cast members will be involved.

During a recent episode of Jeff Sneider and John Rocha’s The Hot Mic, Sneider revealed he heard a rumor that the Avengers: Doomsday release date could be pushed. According to Sneider, Avengers: Doomsday‘s release date could be moved to the “next slot,” which, as of this writing, is the unclaimed November 6, 2026. Sneider heard that the reason for this potential delay is that Marvel Studios still doesn’t know which actors are going to be in the film, which Rocha characterized as “weird” considering Avengers: Doomsday filming is scheduled to begin soon.
I heard, ‘We still don’t know who’s ultimately going to be in this movie and who’s not. We don’t know who’s going to be available.’ I think they’re still figuring out what that ensemble looks like.
While this rumor may be difficult to believe considering Avengers: Doomsday is expected to begin filming in April, there may be signs that this claim is true. Director Joe and Anthony Russo recently played coy about who will return in Avengers: Doomsday, claiming they still didn’t know who was in the film. Loki actor Tom Hiddleston also said he wasn’t sure if he was in Avengers: Doomsday, and Benedict Cumberbatch had to reverse his comments claiming he wasn’t part of the cast. Normally, fans could attribute these comments to the cast and crew dodging the question of who is in the Avengers: Doomsday cast due to Marvel Studios’ penchant for secrecy. However, if Sneider’s information is accurate, then perhaps the filmmakers and MCU actors are honestly unaware of who is assembling in Avengers: Doomsday.
This is concerning, as Avengers: Doomsday filming was reportedly already delayed from March to April because the script wasn’t complete. Marvel Studios already has a negative reputation for putting MCU films into production without a finished script. However, if Avengers: Doomsday was preparing to start filming without a locked cast, that might be an unprecedented level of unpreparedness for the MCU.
It should be noted that Marvel Studios has not confirmed or denied this rumor. But if it’s true, delaying Avengers: Doomsday will exacerbate the concerns fans have about the state of the MCU.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 1, 2026.
