This article contains spoilers from the Naruto series.
Summary

- The Blank Period is the perfect time for a prequel, showing Naruto and Sasuke at their peaks.
The Naruto franchise is absolutely massive even today, despite both the anime and the manga of Naruto having ended long ago. The Boruto series has also helped keep the story alive, and fans are somewhat invested in it as well, although the popularity of Boruto pales in comparison. That said, the fact that Boruto is continuing strong after 8 years of serialization is proof of the fact that the world of Naruto still has a lot of potential.

The second Hokaga, Tobirama, was a powerful man. His death had great impact in Naruto.
In fact, Boruto aside, fans know that this world can produce even more exciting content for the fans to enjoy, more than even Boruto, and that it can come in the form of a prequel that many avid Naruto fans would absolutely love. Of course, whether or not that’ll happen is an entirely different question altogether, but fans know that Naruto has a ton of potential still, and that Kishimoto should be looking to expand upon the world, just as Dragon Ball has done over the years, having concluded the original series long ago.
The Naruto Series Still Has Potential
- The World Of Naruto Has Tons Of Potential
- Naruto Uzumaki’s Journey Can Still Be Expanded
There is most certainly a lot of potential in the Naruto franchise still. For one, this story is one of the most popular ones in the world, and at one point, it was even more popular than One Piece in the West, despite never being able to put up even remotely close numbers in Japan itself. Still, Naruto was always side by side with One Piece, and that was before anime became as mainstream as it is now. Unfortunately for Naruto, it ended serialization before the medium became as popular as it is. But, despite that, Naruto’s popularity is unquestionable. This is a series that fans have grown up with, much like Dragon Ball, and a story that they absolutely deserve to see more of.
Persevering…that’s what makes us shinobi. — Naruto Uzumaki
The world of Naruto itself has the opportunity for both Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha to set out and explore the world, learn more about it, and for Kishimoto to introduce more threats and perhaps even more complex scenarios than what he did in the original Naruto series. All this is further boosted by the fact that Kishimoto himself is considering a return to drawing manga. Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Kishimoto will return to Naruto. After all, it is entirely possible that he wants to do a new manga although, especially since he’s already tried his luck once with Samurai 8.
Kishimoto could want to do a different series, but it is also possible that his love for the world he created in Naruto is massive, and after experimenting with Samurai 8, he simply wants to continue drawing Naruto again. Kishimoto recently drew a Minato oneshot following the global popularity poll. It is safe to say that this Oneshot was absolutely spectacular and reminded fans just what an amazing author Kishimoto truly is. Now, fans hope he returns to Naruto, or, at the very least, supervises the story, just as Dragon Ball Super once was, with Toriyama being thrown into the mix.
A Series On Naruto And Sasuke Would Be Amazing To Follow
Boruto Is Fun, But It Isn’t Quite Naruto
The Naruto world has a lot to offer, but it can be said that the best of this world isn’t being utilized by the writers, simply because the sequel happens to be Boruto. The Boruto series is definitely fun for the fans to follow, and it is its own thing, but it isn’t Naruto, and it can never even come close. The journey of the Boruto characters isn’t half as fun to follow, and the fans want to see the likes of Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha instead. This is why all readers expect there to be a prequel to the Boruto series, as that would be absolutely sensational.
To me, he’s the closest bond I’ve ever had. — Naruto Uzumaki
The story could follow the likes of Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha, as it did in the vast majority of the Naruto series. Fans would absolutely rejoice in seeing their beloved characters on the screen once again, and it would most certainly bring them a lot of joy.

The Tailed Beasts have a role to play in Boruto. Here’s what it will be.
The journeys of Naruto and Sasuke can’t possibly be over yet. In fact, fans actually wouldn’t even mind following their adventures right until the very end, and given that Boruto is mostly focused on the likes of Boruto Uzumaki and the next generation, it would be unfair to expect the series to leave the protagonist on the side and focus on the old characters instead. That is precisely why there needs to be a prequel to Boruto that could focus on the legendary duo of Naruto and Sasuke, and, hopefully, it could also throw into the mix characters like Sakura Haruno, Kakashi Hatake, Lee, Ino, Bee, and Tenten, among many others.
The Blank Period Needs More Attention
The Story Could Be Set In This Era
Naturally, some fans might be wondering as to when the perfect Naruto sequel and the Boruto prequel will be set. There is only one answer to this question, and that is the Blank Period. Following the conclusion of the Fourth Great Ninja War, all the way to the Boruto series, there are over 10 years that fans haven’t seen the world cover. These 10 years are far more than enough to cover a very exciting story about the main characters from Naruto, and fans would absolutely love for it to happen.
It would be especially exciting because fans would see Naruto and Sasuke at their peaks, and taking on different missions in different parts of the world as legends already. This also means that the enemies will be overpowered in their own right, and it would most definitely mean that the battles would be a sight to behold. Naruto can most certainly do something similar to what Daima did recently, and it would go on to be one of the most popular pieces of media that fans will have seen in a long time.
Of course, this is just an idea. Whether it’ll happen or not depends on the author of the Naruto series, and his vision for the future of the franchise. Fans can only hope that this adaptation eventually happens, and that when it does, Naruto and Sasuke can finally get the attention that their characters and fans desperately want. For now, no announcement has been made but nobody knows what Studio Pierrot holds in store for the fans.
Boruto is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of Boruto, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 19, is set to be February 20, 2025.
