Updated February 24, 2025, by Eduardo Ariedo: Marvel Comics has always been known for the incredible superhero duos that they have – from characters who are alike to those who are vastly different but create such a compelling contrast that one is unimaginable without the other. Thus, the best duos in Marvel Comics demonstrate how different heroes (or villains) can share remarkable chemistry when they come together.

Spider-Man & Deadpool

The Duo Unites Action And Comedy In Marvel Comics

In one of the most unexpected duos in Marvel, Spider-Man and Deadpool create unforgettable moments in the comics. Determined to earn the “friendly neighborhood” hero’s trust, Deadpool attempts to change and prove worthy of that bond, although it results in confusion and comedic scenes. He even killed the hero once, felt remorse, and resurrected him in Spider-Man/Deadpool.

In stories featuring top characters, they are one of the best duos in Marvel, delivering a unique dynamic. With joke competitions and sharp dialogue, their adventures blend action, comedy, and sincere moments, where they notice similarities in humor and their will to do good.

12

Daredevil & Elektra

Between Love And Hate, They Form One Of The Best Duos In Marvel

Their history is complex, shaped by love, tragedy, and betrayal. Matt Murdock and Elektra Natchios meet in college, where they begin a relationship. After Elektra’s father is murdered, she becomes involved in crime, and the hero has no choice but to clash with her.

Their differences make their coexistence complicated, torn between love and hate, resulting in emotional, action-filled stories. Like when the assassin is killed by Bullseye and Matt holds her, in one of the most striking moments in Daredevil comics. Their layered bond makes them one of the best duos in Marvel.

11

Wolverine & Nightcrawler

Mutual Admiration Shapes The Best X-Men Duo

With Wolverine being fierce and Nightcrawler guided by faith, they seem like an unlikely pair, but their contrast creates a special dynamic. After Secret Wars, they form a deeper connection, where Kurt offers comfort during a tough period. They complete each other both emotionally and in combat.

When Nightcrawler dies in X-Men, he later returns to life, and with Logan’s help, they battle Azazel in a gripping sequence. Their reunion is one of the best moments in X-Men comics, showing their connection remains despite the hardships. They are undoubtedly among the best duos in Marvel, despite their differences.

10

Wolverine & X-23

Created as a female clone of Wolverine, X-23 soon crosses paths with him, leading to emotional and intense moments. Though initially strained, they grow close like family, with Logan helping Laura control anger and find direction, which makes them one of the best duos in Marvel.

During X-Force, Logan trains Laura and shields her from her burdens, hoping she avoids the violence he experienced for so long. When Wolverine dies, X-23 assumes his mantle, determined to honor his legacy. Defined by family, legacy, and redemption, their bond stands among the best in comics.

9

Black Widow & Hawkeye

Sacrifice And Loyalty Define This Avengers Duo

Founding members of the Avengers, Black Widow and Hawkeye are among the best duos in Marvel. Skilled in combat and espionage, they lack superpowers but stand out for their courage against various threats. As S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, their bond is built on trust and respect, supporting each other in difficult missions.

Despite challenges in Secret Wars, where they face a global threat, their connection deepens as they deal with dilemmas. Natasha has even sacrificed herself for Clint, proving how strong their relationship is.

8

Thor & Loki

These Brothers Share The Most Challenging And Moving Interactions In Marvel

Despite their rivalry, Thor and Loki unite in several narratives, showing that brotherly love exists beneath it all. In Journey Into Mystery, Loki tests the God of Thunder, setting the tone for their relationship. This also happens in other stories, where the villain feels overshadowed by Thor.

In Loki: Agent of Asgard, the God of Trickery aims to prove his heroism, making his bond with Thor more amicable despite lingering doubts. Fighting together, both in battles and personal matters, they form one of the best duos in Marvel, though it remains a challenging dynamic.

7

Captain America & Bucky Barnes

From Friends To Enemies, They Form A Complex Duo Because Of Their Past

One of the most historically great duos from the pages of Marvel Comics, Steve Rogers was almost always joined on his early World War II adventures by his trusty sidekick Bucky Barnes. While the development of that character in both the MCU and Marvel Comics involved his rebirth as the Winter Soldier, it would eventually lead to him taking on the mantle of Captain America in the comics.

This full-circle path for Bucky was significant, as he was originally portrayed as a younger sidekick helping Captain America. Their relationship was more similar to Batman and Robin, but it was a truly wonderful relationship that led to some heart-breaking moments when they were later pitted against each other. No matter what position they are in when together this duo creates emotional chemistry charged by a long history.

6

Ant-Man & The Wasp

More Than A Couple, They Became A Superhero Duo

Ant-Man and The Wasp have long been a legendary duo in Marvel Comics lore. However, it was Hank Pym, not Scott Lang, and his wife, Janet Van Dyne, who originally defined the shrinking superhero partnership. As a husband-and-wife team, they fought side by side for years, becoming essential members of the Avengers.

This pair played a crucial role in shaping Marvel’s early superhero landscape, being foundational to the original Avengers lineup. Though their relationship eventually fractured and their histories became more complicated, nothing can erase the legacy they built as one of Marvel’s most iconic superhero duos.

5

Rocket & Groot

One Of The Most Beloved And Entertaining Duos In Marvel

A more recent duo that many fans don’t realize was only made part of the main Guardians of the Galaxy team in Marvel Comics around 2008 when the modern version of the team was first formed. These characters were all previously unrelated to each other, but Rocket has been around since the mid-seventies and Groot was created in 1960. The two paired together quickly became so popular that they got their own spin-off series in 2016.

Groot is happy as “the muscle” commonly for the smaller Rocket, who as the loudmouth of the pair makes them a classic buddy comedy duo. They are hilarious and beloved in the MCU Guardians Of The Galaxy films, in their unrelated animated series, and in comics where they have quickly become a staple for Marvel.

4

Luke Cage & Iron Fist

Vigilantes And Friends, They Share One Of The Best Dynamics

Many MCU fans will be surprised to learn that this pair, who each had their own individual Netflix shows, are usually a pair in the pages of Marvel Comics. Luke Cage AKA Power Man and the Iron Fist formed a team called Heroes For Hire that has been around since the 1970s. When Iron Fist’s own series was canceled due to low sales, he joined Luke Cage who had begun working on an idea where he would do “superhero work” for a price.

This enabled them to pay their bills practically while engaging in heroic activities and was a unique idea for the time which worked well. Their partnership has remained an infamous one in more recent times but was surprisingly left unexplored in the MCU so far. With the reappearance of other Netflix characters like Daredevil more recently, this pair could find fresh success together.

3

Clint Barton & Kate Bishop

One Of The Most Iconic Duos In Marvel Comics

Another more recent duo, Kate Bishop was only introduced in the pages of Marvel Comics in 2005 when she joined up with the Young Avengers as Hawkeye. Clint Barton was already Hawkeye and when they met and became a team in the famous Matt Fraction comic series, it was a pairing that would make for some of the best storytelling in Marvel Comics this century.

Barton and Bishop both retained the title of Hawkeye, but in tackling thugs and goons alongside their one-eyed dog, they created a new style of partnership that wasn’t quite teacher and student or equals. It has always been a pleasure to see the pair together and their series was so popular it led to the comic series being closely recreated by the Hawkeye show produced within the MCU.

2

Cyclops & Jean Grey

One Of The Most Powerful Pairs In The X-Men

A long-running relationship is a rare thing within the pages of any comic book. Marvel is especially bad at keeping two characters romantically linked for a long period of time, but Cyclops and Jean Grey of the X-Men managed to stay linked throughout most of their comic book lives.

These two always manage to find their way back to each other, and despite the fondness of the X-Men films for Wolverine and Jean Grey having something, Marvel Comics has held strong in keeping tradition for this duo. Though it has led to heartbreak for Scott more than once, with Jean’s destiny always seeming to lead to the Phoenix Force and some sort of death or darkness, this pair’s history never seems to be put to a final rest.

1

Charles Xavier & Magneto

Even With Differences, They Are The Best Duo In Marvel

One of the strangest pairs in all comics, Charles Xavier has always had a curiously compelling friendship with Magneto. The leader of the X-Men constantly has to fight against the extremists and his armies of mutants, but that hasn’t stopped them from remaining truly civil to each other most of the time.

Magneto has almost never wanted to actually hurt Charles, he only wishes that Xavier would stay out of his path as he tries to do what he believes is best for mutant-kind. It is a hard friendship to maintain, but the famous duo Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen brought this duo to the screen with the same level of friendship and adversity they have always had in the comics.
