Even though the game is barely four months old, Pokemon TCG Pocket has been evolving quite fast, and its meta has been shifting and adjusting over time as players find more good combos and decks. The big Space-Time Smackdown update for Pokemon TCG Pocket redefined the meta entirely, as a lot of new powerful cards were introduced, such as the titular Dialga Ex and Palkia Ex or some outliers like Magnezone and the Giant Cape and Rocky Helmet Tools. However, there are two cards that are arguably the strongest in the game right now, and they are not even Pokemon cards.
It takes a lot for some cards to beat huge staples of the meta, such as the stall combo of Darkrai Ex and Magnezone in Pokemon TCG Pocket, or even the raw power of Charizard Ex combined with Moltres Ex for quick Energy generation and devastating attacks. Some decks are evolving based on this, especially seeing how dominant Ex cards can be, and how many of them currently see play. Some decks are even running just a handful of critters, sometimes even two Pokemon cards like with Articuno Ex and Pachirisu Ex, whereas the rest of the deck is Supporters and Items. This works thanks to how strong some of these cards are, with the most glaring examples being Misty and Cyrus.

Misty and Cyrus are two Supporter cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket that can come in full art versions, but normally they are not even rares. They’re incredibly powerful in different ways. Misty allows players to flip a coin and assign one Water energy to a Water Pokemon if heads, with the process repeating itself until players get tails – which can also hypothetically be on the very first coin flip. Cyrus, on the other hand, allows players to swap the opposing Active Pokemon for any Pokemon on the bench as long as it’s damaged.
Why Misty is OP in Pokemon TCG Pocket
On the surface, these may not be broken cards, but there is more to them. Assuming players get multiple heads in a row with Misty and some powerful Water Pokemon, they can theoretically win on turn one even if they are starting. Normally, players can’t attach Energy to their Pokemon if it’s the first turn and they go first, but Misty ignores this rule and one can get as much Energy as they can, provided they flip heads several times.
Used with Palkia Ex or Articuno Ex, Misty can wreck the opponent on turn one and potentially even win if the adversary only has one Active Pokemon with no replacements on the bench. For example, getting three heads can let players use Articun Ex’s Blizzard to deal 80 damage to the opponent’s Active Pokemon and 20 to all benched Pokemon, whereas Palkia Ex can deal 50 damage with its 1-Energy attack or 150 with its 4-Energy move. Even outside of turn one, Misty remains a broken card that can easily turn a game on its head with some strategy, such as having a Magikarp on the bench that suddenly turns into Gyarados Ex and attacks for 140 damage.
Why Cyrus is OP in Pokemon TCG Pocket
While Misty can immediately turn the tides of any match with some luck, Cyrus is more about strategy. Using it in combination with Sabrina or simply on Pokemon that have been benched after taking some damage, it can allow players to instantly take the game and win. A benched Ex card is not safe with Cyrus appearing in almost every single meta deck, and it’s easy to use this Supporter to punish opponents who retreat. Having a strong attacker in Pokemon TCG Pocket doesn’t necessarily mean one will win, but Cyrus can help ensure victory in many scenarios. Cyrus is the reason why decks like Skarmory and Magnezone are gaining momentum, as no Ex cards means less liability when opponents use this Supporter to score an unexpected KO. Both Cyrus and Misty can have the same surprise effect when played, and depending on the situation, one can have the match in the bag.
