The Gum-Gum Fruit And Dark-Dark Fruit Look Visually Similar
They Echo The Connection Between Luffy And Blackbeard
In One Piece, the Gum-Gum Fruit has an interesting history in the story. Sporting a purple appearance with clockwise spirals, during the early stages of One Piece the Gum-Gum Fruit almost seemed to choose Luffy to eat it. Although the fruit initially had the power to turn the user’s body into rubber, later it was revealed to hold a secret form behind its awakening; the Human-Human Fruit Model: Sun God Nika.

On the flip side, Blackbeard’s Dark-Dark Fruit is almost the same shade of purple as the Gum-Gum Fruit in One Piece. Additionally, the Dark-Dark Fruit in One Piece has a similar swirling pattern to the Gum-Gum Fruit. However, instead of running clockwise, these spirals run counterclockwise. In addition to this, the Dark-Dark Fruit is also a bit spikier than One Piece’s Gum-Gum Fruit as well, though compared to many other fruits in the series, these two fruits look suspiciously similar.
These Devil Fruits May Be Connected In One Piece
They Could Both Represent The Sun God Nika
- The Two Devil Fruits Look Strangely Similar
- They May Both Be Connected To Nika
Looking at the appearances of the Gum-Gum Fruit and the Dark-Dark Fruit, these two Devil Fruits may be more connected than many fans had originally anticipated. In many ways, especially when looking at the spirals of the fruit, these two powerful Devil Fruits may be the exact opposite of one another, similar to Luffy and Blackbeard themselves. Due to this, it may be possible that the Dark-Dark Fruit could hold a similar awakening to Luffy’s fruit, potentially channeling a different side of Nika.

As many One Piece fans already know, there are many different representations of the Sun God Nika. While some believe Nika to be a god of liberation, others believe Nika to be a god of destruction. Due to this, many fans of the series believe that there may be multiple Devil Fruit in the series that channel different sides of Nika. With all its similarities to the Gum-Gum Fruit, the awakening of the Dark-Dark Fruit could be another interpretation of Nika, acting as a new version of the Human-Human Fruit Model: Nika.
Blackbeard Could Awaken His Fruit Into Something Very Powerful
A Potential Moon God Devil Fruit
However, being the opposite of Luffy’s Human-Human Fruit Model: Sun God Nika, the awakening of the Dark-Dark Fruit could channel a much darker energy, mainly the moon. As many already know, the light of the moon comes from the sun itself. If One Piece’s Nika is the Sun God and the moon itself is powered by the sun, this means that the darker interpretations of Nika could be related to the moon. From here, Blackbeard’s Devil Fruit could be the Human-Human Fruit Model: Moon God Nika, or something along those lines.
Who can say if he was the world’s savior, or the great destroyer who brought it crashing down…
In the end, having Luffy and Blackbeard have directly opposing, yet very powerful, One Piece Devil Fruits would be an interesting way to end the dynamic between the two characters. Since their initial introduction, Blackbeard and Luffy have always had an interesting relationship, acting very similarly, yet still having a few key differences. By representing two sides of the same god in One Piece, each possessing a Devil Fruit that represents a quality of Nika, this may be a very fitting progression for the two important One Piece characters.
