Summary

  • More details about Lego’s Nintendo Game Boy set have leaked.
  • The leak claims the set will be 421 pieces and cost $59.99.
  • That might be less elaborate than some were hoping for, but at least it will seemingly be affordable.

Lego and Nintendo teased the next stage in their toy brick relationship will be a Game Boy set releasing this October. Very little regarding what to expect from the set was revealed via that tease, but a leak from a usually very reliable Lego source may have confirmed how many pieces the Game Boy set will comprise and how much it’s going to cost.

According to Instagram account falconbrickstudios, which often has the inside track on unrevealed details about future Lego sets, the Game Boy set will be 421 pieces and cost $59.99. That will either be good news or bad news depending on what exactly you speculated about the set when Nintendo dropped its initial teaser for it last month.

Lego Is Finally Releasing Affordable Transformer Sets, But They Don’t Transform

Lego Transformers that aren’t 1,000 pieces is good, but it would be nice if they could actually transform.

Lego’s Nintendo collaborations have been a combination of simple sets for its unique characters to interact with, and bigger, more complex sets like the Question Block and Pirahna Plant for older Nintendo fans. Since the Game Boy is 35 years old, some – myself included – assumed its Lego set would lean more complex than simple, but this first hint at what to expect suggests otherwise.

$59.99 Isn’t Bad At All

On the bright side, those who were hoping for quite the opposite, and that the Game Boy set would be a smaller, more affordable one, have reason to celebrate. A lot of Lego’s officially licensed sets can be very expensive, sometimes costing hundreds of dollars. The chance to build a Game Boy out of Lego and for it to cost $59.99 is probably a wise decision by all parties involved and will mean it almost certainly sells incredibly well

It also all but dashes any hopes of this being a Game Boy that was playable in one way or another. That hope was very much rooted in my ignorance of how that would even be possible from a technical perspective.

Expectations might have also been high following on from the only other Nintendo console to have its own set so far – the NES. The NES Lego set is more than 2,600 pieces, although it would have been unrealistic to base your Lego Game Boy expectations on it. The NES set includes a Lego TV and is sort of playable in that there’s a crank you can turn to make the on-screen Lego Mario move.

Lego NES

The only other thing noted in the Lego Game Boy leak is the release date, although many would have guessed that based on the initial teaser. It was confirmed the set will be here in October, and since Lego releases most new sets on the first of each month, it was assumed October 1, 2025, would be the Game Boy set’s release date if all went to plan.
