Dave Bautista is a well-known name within the Marvel Cinematic Universe due to his performances as Drax the Destroyer. He’s been involved in some of the MCU’s biggest-ever movies, but there’s now a possibility he could return for Avengers: Doomsday. Nobody expected to see it due to his previous comments about the MCU, but seeing him turn up in Avengers: Doomsday would be something audiences would enjoy.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 was the last time Bautista was seen in the MCU, which wrapped up that franchise and his time as Drax. He’s made it clear that taking on that role isn’t something he’s interested in doing again in the future, but that doesn’t mean that he’s finished with the MCU completely.

Even though Bautista has ruled out playing Drax again unless James Gunn is involved, the former WWE Superstar still has a desire to be involved in the superhero genre, as he explained to Comicbook.com. He said, “I do wanna be in that world, I’m a fan of that world, I’m a fan of comic books and that whole universe. Marvel, DC, I just wanna be in it. I made that known to James; I made that known to the Russo brothers. Personally, I talked to them, all of them, and told them, ‘Don’t count me out. If there’s a character that I’d be right for and that you want me for, man, I’d be totally open-minded to it.’ It’s just the Drax character ran its course.”
That has opened the door for Bautista to continue performing within the MCU even though his chapter as Drax has come to an end. However, he’s also happy to reunite with Gunn in the DC Universe, which is another possibility for him. Bautista has previously expressed an interest in playing Bane and even pushed for the role to Warner Bros, proving how keen he’d be to take on the part, which could be an option at some stage.
However, the MCU is where fans are most used to seeing him, and if he returns as a different character, the upcoming Avengers films would be the best time to do that. Whether it’s Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, Bautista could quickly return without causing too much audience confusion due to the multiverse. It’s expected that cameos and surprise appearances will occur throughout those movies, and Bautista could tick that box by playing a villain from a different multiverse. It’s something that Robert Downey Jr. is doing as Doctor Doom, and the idea of other MCU stars doing the same could be fun.
Bautista was excellent as Drax and evidently understood the comic book world, as his ability to balance emotion and humor helped make the character so popular despite all of the prominent personalities in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. He has the ideal physique for a supervillain or hero, and audiences would enjoy seeing him back. Considering the multiverse possibilities in Avengers: Doomsday, there’s a good chance that this could happen, and the fact that he’s open to it is a positive sign.
