Tips To Beat Survival Mode In Sniper Elite: Resistance

Sniper Elite: Resistance and its other SE counterparts feel a little bit old-school, from an era where most games that came out had a handful of different modes packed into it, apart from the main mode that the game is centered around; something that’s fallen slightly out of fashion in modern games.

For SE: Resistance’s part, one of those modes is the Survival Mode. This is very much what comes to mind for survival modes in most games: you (and allies, if you wish) are tasked with defending a location from waves of enemies that increase in difficulty the further on you go.

How Does Survival Mode Work?

The Survival Mode screen in Sniper Elite Resistance.

Survival Mode puts you in one of two different maps available for the mode, called Fortress Command or Mark Of The Eagle. Each of those maps then contains four different objectives, from A to D.

At each of these objectives, you’re going to be tasked with defending the point from three waves of Nazis, each. All in all, that’s going to be 12 waves, where the third wave of each is going to be the most difficult.

You’ll have access to all the equipment that you’ve unlocked in the Campaign in Survival Mode, though you’ll need to simply reapply your skill points for this mode.

What To Expect From Waves In Survival Mode

While there is some variance in waves, and the difficulty is going to depend somewhat on the difficulty options that you select, there are some things that you can expect from each wave.

  • The first wave is not generally going to contain aggressive enemy vehicles. It may contain a motorcycle of a troop transport vehicle, but not something that’s going to fire at you, and require anti-vehicle ordnance to combat.
  • The second wave often brings a smaller aggressive vehicle, along with more enemy Nazis, and some that are geared to a higher degree. You may be up against enemies that have explosives, enemy snipers, or enemies with miniguns.
  • The third wave is going to start bringing bigger aggressive vehicles, whether it’s a tank or another variety. There is usually going to be explosives available in your objective, and you’re going to need to make smart use of them. There are also going to be the most on-foot enemies yet, with varying levels of gear.

What Are Operations?

Operations available on the Mark Of The Eagle map in Sniper Elite Resistance.

Operations are different sets of objectives, and will put you in different locations through the map. Both maps have four different operations, with each operation consisting of four objectives each. This makes for 32 different objectives to defend, all told.

The Operations for each map are titled:

Map

Operations

Fortress Command

Scout | Knight | Watchman | Paladin

Mark Of The Eagle

Blast | Fragmentation | Anti Armour | Incendiary

How To Complete Survival Mode

Finishing Survival Mode is going to require defeating every Nazi in every round, all the way to the conclusion, in objective D.

Once you complete each objective, you’ll be teleported to the next, which a small amount of prep time.

Once you’ve completed a certain wave in each operation, you’ll be able to set that as a starting point in the future, if you’d like.

Here are the best kill challenges in Sniper Elite: Resistance!

Maps Available In Survival Mode

Both maps available are listed in Sniper Elite Resistance.

There are two maps available in Survival Mode:

  • Fortress Command
  • Mark Of The Eagle

Fortress Command

The Fortress Command map in Sniper Elite Resistance.

Fortress Command is going to limit your options for long-range engagements, forcing you to get comfortable with closer-range weaponry. This is true for Survival Mode as a whole, but more true for this map than the other.

Enemies are going to be funneled into certain locations more on this map on occasion, and you’ll need to make use of that by gaining smart sightlines and placing explosives beforehand.

Mark Of The Eagle

The Mark Of The Eagle map in Sniper Elite Resistance.

This map is taken from the third and arguably the best mission in the game. This mission will offer you some longer sightlines, giving you more license to use your sniper rifle in situations that it’s built for.

This map is a little bit more open in general though, making it a bit more difficult to trap locations for enemies beforehand. There are going to be a lot of angles that you’re going to need to cover at the same time, making things challenging when enemies start to really build up.

How To Play Survival Mode Solo

The Solo mode highlighted in Sniper Elite Resistance.

To play Survival Mode alone and offline, select the ‘Solo‘ option on the left of the screen. This is likely going to be the hardest way to experience Survival Mode, as there are going to be more enemies than one person can easily manage, and it cannot be completed in stealth, like the Campaign.

Tips For Playing Survival Mode Solo

When playing Survival Mode on your own, you’re going to need every tool in your toolbox, or you’re going to fail. After the easy waves, there are going to be too many enemies thrown at your at the same time to shoot your way out of it with a rifle alone.

  • You’re going to need to bring a secondary weapon that you’re comfortable with, and that can take care of more than one enemy with one magazine, easily.
  • You’re also going to need to make smart use of explosive traps. There are going to be enemies coming from many different angles, and you cannot possibly watch them all. Setting traps in certain areas and watching the others is going to allow you to at least whittle down the enemy force, giving you time to switch between different priorities.
  • Those traps are also going to be paramount in dealing with enemy vehicles. You will have little time to split your attention between enemy foot-soldiers and enemy vehicles, and if you can at least stop an enemy vehicle with explosives, you can deal with it when you have time, and it can’t press the point.
  • If possible, leave one enemy alive, or one immobile vehicle, at the end of a round. This is going to give you ample time to prepare for the next round by looting enemies and setting traps, letting you essentially start the next round when you’re ready. This is especially helpful when playing solo, because you don’t have much time between rounds.

How To Play Survival Mode With Friends

Playing Survival Mode with friends can be done by selecting either the ‘Host‘ or ‘Browse Games‘ options on the right of the screen. If you’re hosting, you’ll need to set the map type, difficulty, and operation, then invite any friends that you’d like to join. You can also host an open lobby, allowing anyone to join.

If you’d like to play with random players, you can select the ‘Quick Match‘ option in the center of the screen.

Tips For Playing Survival Mode With Friends

Firing an explosive at an enemy vehicle in Sniper Elite Resistance.

Playing with friends is going to make this mode measurably easier, but it can still be failed if you don’t do your job.

  • Split sightlines between different allies to ensure that no one person gets overwhelmed by watching too many angles at once. It’ll keep enemy flank routes under control, and prevent enemies from causing surprises.
  • You also might want to have one or two players prepared for enemy vehicles, specifically. Not that they can’t help take care of enemy foot-soldiers, but if someone is prepared for a vehicle the moment that it becomes a problem, the situation is going to resolve itself much quicker.
  • It can be helpful to stay split up enough that a single explosive cannot take down more than one of you. You have little warning before an enemy explosive lands out of the sky and hits you, and that can be devastating if multiple people are using the same cover.
