The main thing you will do in Rift Of The Necrodancer is play through songs. This can be through the story, daily challenges, or the typical Play mode. In addition to attacking in time to your favorite tunes, you’ll also be able to play five separate minigames.

Rift of the Necrodancer combines visual novel-style storytelling with frantic rhythm-based action to solid effect.

As expected, these minigames involve following some sort of rhythm. In this guide, we are going to take a look at how to unlock and play all five minigames in Rift Of The Necrodancer. If you play the story, you’ll need to do each minigame at least once, but playing more is completely optional.

How To Unlock Minigames

To unlock minigames immediately, you’ll need to spend some diamonds. From the main menu, head down to Extras, and then click on minigames, which is the first option. Once here, you’ll see a lot of game options.

In total, there are five games, which you can find listed below.

  • A Bit Of A Stretch
  • Lunch Rush
  • Voguelike
  • Show Time!
  • Take A Breather

From the minigame menu, you’ll see each game listed twice; one hard version and one medium version. Each game also has a tutorial that you can play through.

The minigames will have diamond outlines next to them. Based on how good you do, you’ll earn some diamonds. Once all icons have been filled in for a minigame, you’ll know that you have gotten all the possible diamonds from it.

If you don’t want to spend diamonds, you can also unlock minigames for free by playing through the story. Below, you can check out when each minigame unlocks.

A Bit Of A Stretch

A player doing yoga in Rift of the Necrodancer.

This is a yoga minigame where you’ll need to follow Dove’s instructions. Your goal is to time movement with the other yogis, creating a domino effect of posing. Dove will call out the pose, such as tree or downward dog, but you’ll also see an arrow going in the direction that you need to press.

Rather than immediately pressing, you’ll need to follow the pattern set by the other people participating. Sometimes, Dove will say “Double time!”, and the yogis will pose two times as quickly. You’ll need to pose in time with this as well.

Overall, you aren’t making a unique rhythmic pattern; you’re just trying to create a steady pose beat.

Some poses will be on the off-beat. When this happens, just continue moving according to the other yogis.

Lunch Rush

Lunch Rush is a burger-making minigame where you’ll need to follow the layout given by the Necrodancer. First, you’ll see him grab items in a certain rhythm. After he adds the bun, it’s your turn. You’ll need to add the exact things that he does in the same rhythm.

For this minigame, it seems that meat and cheese always come from the left, while all veggies always come from the right. When putting on the bun as the final step, you’ll always press Up. The most important piece of advice we can give you for this is to really pay attention to the rhythm in which the Necrodancer lays down the ingredients.

Now, it’s time to take some pictures of Heph. In this game, Merlin will direct you while taking pictures of Heph. She’ll call out “Get Ready Pose!”, and the beat after she says pose, you’ll need to press Down. Each word in this sentence is a beat, so on the fourth beat, you’ll be posing.

Sometimes, Merlin will only say a few words. For example, if she just says “Ready Pose!”, you’ll press Down on the third beat.

You’ll also take close-ups of Heph. This is a bit more complex than the normal pictures. Merlin will call out “Zoom in for the close up!”. This phrase is said over three beats; “zoom in”, “for the”, and “close up”.

When Merlin says “close up”, you’ll need to press Up. This is the third beat in the sentence. After doing this, you’ll then need to press Down on the fourth beat. So overall, you’ll be waiting two beats, and then on the next two beats, you’ll press Up and then Down.

Show Time!

A player marching in Rift of the Necrodancer.

Here at TheGamer, this minigame was the most difficult to get the hang of. While the game itself is not difficult, it’s a bit different from the rest. The premise is that you are a round mascot, performing to a march. At the start of the minigame, the broadcaster will tell you to begin marching; in the beat after the whistle, you’ll start.

To march, you will be pressing the side arrows (starting in the direction specified) every other beat right as your feet are centered. Let’s say no other commands are given; you’ll just be alternating between left and right every other beat (the beats can easily be seen by the bouncing of the crowd).

Marching isn’t just rocking left and right though. There are two types of commands that the broadcaster will give; “moving it” in a certain direction, and jumping. When told to “move it”, you’ll press in the direction specified directly on each beat. This will feel two times quicker than a normal march.

The broadcaster will also command you to jump a certain amount of times. You’ll need to count your jumps, done in the same time as a normal march step (on every other beat).

While all of this is going on, you’ll need to continue marching side to side. After “moving it”, you’ll need to continue marching in the other direction. After jumping, you’ll also need to resume marching, which always picks back up from the right side.

Take A Breather

A player meditating in Rift of the Necrodancer.

Take A Breather is the last minigame in Rift of the Necrodancer. In this game, you’ll be meditating with Dove and Suzu. This is relatively simple, with just a few things to keep in mind. Dove will out some breathing commands; breathe in with Up, and breathe out with Down. You’ll press either of these one beat after Dove finishes talking.

Two other things can happen while meditating; Dove’s dove can lose a feather, and Suzu’s phone will buzz. When the dove loses a feather, you’ll need to press Right to catch it on the fifth beat. When Suzu’s phone buzzes, press Left on the following beat. This will knock it from her hand, getting rid of the distraction.

Dove’s dove is a bit harder to deal with than Suzu’s phone. The feather will pop out, but you’ll need to wait until the fifth beat to grab it. The first beat is the feather actually popping out; after this, wait three full beats of it floating down, and then press Right on beat five, when it’s near your hand.
