Lies of P fans have a bright future ahead of them, with a sequel confirmed to be in development and DLC on the way. The ending of Lies of P leaves a clear direction for either the DLC or sequel to follow, but developer Neowiz can still find ways to surprise players and build upon the strong mechanical foundation of the first game. One area where Lies of P 2 can set itself apart from its predecessor is in the weapon assembly mechanic, potentially allowing players to get even more creative with their weapon customizations and character builds.

With Lies of P taking a lot of cues from FromSoftware’s Bloodborne, the complexity of character builds isn’t on the same level as some soulslikes like Elden Ring or even Dark Souls. However, Lies of P sets itself apart from Bloodborne by offering players the ability to separate certain weapons into their handles and their blades before reattaching them in different configurations. While this feature is great for experimenting with different attack patterns and Fable Arts, there is room for it to be so much more in-depth in the Lies of P sequel.

How Lies of P’s Weapon Assembly Comprises the Majority of the Game’s Buildcrafting

Although Lies of P doesn’t feature distinct class options that a game like Elden Ring offers players when they first boot up a new game, there are still ways for players to customize their chosen play style. Players can invest in stats like Motivity, Technique, and Advance to get better damage out of different types of weapons, from heavy to light, and even elemental ones. Where the game really allows players to customize their builds is the weapon assembly mechanic, opening the door to a wide array of unique combinations that allow players to take weapons that wouldn’t normally fit their build and make them part of their arsenal.

Another layer of this mechanic is the handle alteration side of things, wherein players can change the stat grade of a weapon handle to favor either Motivity, Technique, or Advance. Although there are limits to this system, its inclusion allows players to develop a handle that squeezes the best damage out of their current stat scale and attach their preferred blade to fit the types of attacks they want to perform. As complex as this system is for buildcrafting in Lies of P, its sequel can take it to new heights and develop an entirely new way for players to strategize their builds around.

Lies of P 2 Can Take Weapon Assembly to the Next Level

Rather than splitting weapons up into two parts—the handle and the blade, Lies of P 2 can further divide up weapon parts for even more mixing and matching. For example, weapons could be split into the blade, handle, and crossguard, where the blade governs the damage stat, the handle governs the Fable Arts and damage scaling, and the crossguard governs the damage blocked while guarding. Diving weapon assembly this way in Lies of P 2 would be a great way to add greater depth to the game’s buildcrafting and potentially enhance its replayability.

If Lies of P 2 does take inspiration from The Wizard of Oz as the game’s ending teases, it could naturally lead to a system where players can also socket gems into weapons to further augment their stats. Just like Dorothy’s ruby slippers, adding a ruby or other gemstone to a weapon socket could impart a stat modifier or other special weapon effect. The potential a system like this has to tie gameplay mechanics to the overarching lore of the game makes the opportunity to implement it in Lies of P 2 too good to pass up.
