How long is Avowed? Obsidian Entertainment isn’t known for pumping out 100-hour-plus RPGs, and for time-strapped writers such as ourselves, that’s pretty darn neat. Avowed isn’t set to buck the trend, but that’s not to say the Pillars of Eternity spinoff won’t have plenty in store for you to get on with in the Living Lands.
With a focus on quality over quantity, we’re quietly confident Obsidian is once again going to deliver an imaginative, fun-filled RPG in Avowed. But just how long exactly will it be? Well, as we approach the Avowed release date, we already have a solid idea of just how long we’ll be returning to Eora for.
Avowed length
Avowed is expected to be around 15 hours long for the main story alone, and up to 40 hours long for a completionist run. This estimate is based on a 2024 Game Informer interview in which game director Carrie Patel likens its scope to Obsidian sci-fi mini-epic The Outer Worlds.
“The best comparison for Avowed in terms of scope is The Outer Worlds,” Patel told the now-shuttered outlet. “Players can expect a roughly similar experience, just like The Outer Worlds, depending on what kind of difficulty they play on, and how thoroughly they explore and invest inside content, versus just sticking to the main crit path missions.”
Our The Outer Worlds review run, which included side content, took roughly 25 hours to clear. However, if you make a beeline down the main story path and ignore everything else, you can comfortably complete the game in 15 hours. Hunting down all the achievements in The Outer Worlds, meanwhile, takes roughly 40 hours of solid play. Regardless of the particulars, we’re looking at a relatively compact experience that you can leisurely play through over a weekend – lovely stuff.
