One of the best things Blasphemous 2 improves upon from the first game is how the Penitent One can explore and traverse the numerous areas within the sprawling map. In this game, intrepid players can uncover various Relics of Contrition that bestow the Penitent One with a slew of new abilities that make exploring for secrets and combat more dynamic and fun. These Relics are specifically designed to improve the Penitent One’s movement and traversal abilities, highlighting the game’s often overlooked platforming.

But among the Relics of Contrition, which stands out among the rest? From having the ability to cling to slide against walls, to summoning allies to help with some tricky platforming, these are Blasphemous‘ best Relics of Contrition that players should get for the Penitent One’s pilgrimage:
Updated on January 28, 2025, by Gerardo Molina: Special abilities aren’t new in the Blasphemous franchise, as they have been available since the first game. However, many of them have been improved upon to make the Penitent One more deadly and evasion easier to attain. On top of this, the design of Blasphemous 2 requires players to unlock every Relic of Contrition to access all the areas available in Custodia. While some Relics of Contrition can be obtained early on in the game, others, like Scion’s Protection, will often come late, close to when players are about to finish the story, which further reinforces the idea that Blasphemous 2 is meant to have a ton of backtracking.

Ivy of Ascension
The Penitent One Can Hug Walls And Use This In Exploration And Combat
- Relic Unlocked In Area: Profundo Lamento
Ivy of Ascension is the first Relic of Contrition the Penitent One will discover and unlock in the game. Once acquired, this Relic enables the Penitent One to hug specific types of wall surfaces on top of getting the ability to wall jump.

Blasphemous 2: All Empty Receptacle Locations (Carry More Bile Flasks)
Blasphemous 2 players can carry more healing flasks by turning in Empty Receptacles to a certain NPC.
As the first traversal ability, the Ivy of Ascension opens up the game and its many areas for the Penitent One. Some places that weren’t passable previously can now be scaled and explored thanks to this Relic of Contrition. During the latter stages, players need to be keen on their surroundings: checking whether the walls are climbable or not usually means the difference between discovering a secret location and treasure and missing it until they need to backtrack later. It’s even handy in some boss fights.
Ivy of Ascension is mistakenly regarded as strictly being related to exploration. However, it can also be used during combat to dodge incoming attacks and get out of the way of danger before it’s too late. As players progress through the story of Blasphemous 2, they will come across various boss fights and area enemies that will require them to dodge as fast as possible, so being able to hug certain walls and dash from one place to another can be the difference between emerging victorious and having to restart at the nearest Prie Dieu.

Scions’ Protection
An Ability That Comes Late In The Game
- Relic Unlocked In Area: The Severed Tower
Once the majority of the playable areas are available for players, they might notice some locations have sparkling objects floating around that cannot be interacted with. These are locations where Scions are present: to get this, players have to complete the main storyline of the Severed Tower.

Here are the best Chants Prayers in Blasphemous 2, ranked from worst to best.
Upon getting this Relic of Contrition, the previously sparkling objects will be replaced by Cherubs that hold a ring. The Penitent One can grab onto these rings and jump their way across new areas on the map. While this is useful to get the last secret areas in the game, players will acquire this around the eighty to eighty-five percent mark before Blasphemous 2‘s end, so this is usually attained for backtracking purposes. Some would argue that making an ability as useful and necessary as this so late in the game takes away a bit of fun. However, backtracking has always been an important part of the Blasphemous franchise experience, and it can sometimes even be used against area enemies and bosses. This is one of those things that players will have to figure out on their own, as there’s little indication of where to get Scion’s Protection or why it’s needed in the first place.

Mercy of Wind
An Essential Part Of Exploration And Evasion
- Relic Unlocked In Area: Crown of Towers
Mercy of Wind is an amazing Relic of Contrition in Blasphemous 2. When acquired, this gives the Penitent One the ability to dash while in the air. This is a great tool for platforming and having more hang time to reach some of those tricky cliffs that contain secrets and loot. Using Mercy of Wind is essential for crossing blue-chain barriers.

There are three weapons available for players to use in Blasphemous 2. Those curious about what the best one is can find out here.
During combat, Mercy of Wind gives the Penitent One another evasion tool against enemies. Players can use Mercy of Wind to avoid being mobbed by enemies and dodging rampaging bosses and their merciless attacks. For those who want to add speed to their traversal, getting this Relic of Contrition is a must. Although Blasphemous 2 is considered to be a little easier than the first installment of the franchise, it could also be argued that many of the boss fights present in it are much faster. This makes Mercy of Wind extremely useful, as it allows the Penitent One to evade incoming attacks much more efficiently, thus making victory a lot more likely.

Passage of Ash
Double-Jumping Is Useful To Discover New Areas
- Relic Unlocked In Area: Beneath Her Sacred Grounds
Given that Blasphemous 2 is a Metroidvania game, platforming is certainly part of its gameplay. As such, having a vertical jump, while standard, is often not enough to clear or reach particular areas. This is where Passage of Ash comes in: this Relic of Contrition gives the Penitent One the ability to double jump.
Getting Passage of Ash allows players to uncover every area in the game’s map and locate hard-to-reach places and secret areas. Combat-wise, having a double jump greatly makes the Penitent One elusive against enemies and bosses. With proper timing and pattern recognition, players can use this along with the other Relics of Contrition to avoid getting hit by enemies, leaving them open for attacks themselves. Passage of Ash can also be very useful to destroy wooden barriers, as players must reach considerable heights to make the downward plunge attack strong enough to break them.
