The patch that accompanied the Life & Death expansion for The Sims 4 introduced plenty of things, but one of the most groundbreaking was the ability to create ghosts in CAS. Now there are fewer barriers to spooky fun, even if killing your Sims never gets old.
Ghosts have a wide array of different abilities, but for some players, it’s just not enough. With all these new ghostly possibilities, the logical next step is to download as many mods as you can. Here are a few grim and ghastly mods for your next download binge.

Release All Ghosts And Get Urn/Tombstone

This is a great housekeeping mod that will allow you greater control over which ghosts appear in your game. The “release all ghosts” interaction allows you to pick up to five unplayed ghosts to release into the Netherworld, ensuring that only the ghosts you truly care about stay in the game.
This will remove the ghosts from the family tree of any Sim they’re related to, so be careful with this one.
Meanwhile, you can also use the mod to make the grave marker for any ghost appear in the active Sim’s inventory. This is great for building graveyards or acquiring a new ghost roommate. For both interactions, you’ll need to click on any grave marker or mailbox in the game.

Ghost Essence Increases Needs
Life & Death allowed ghosts to gain Ghost Essence by doing spooky stuff, but its use in the game is relegated to worthless vendor trash. You can sell your essences to Waylon Warez for five Simoleons each, but that’s not enough for Ghost Essence to be a lucrative means of income.
Luckily, this mod is here to make the Ghost Essence you collect marginally more useful. Both types of essence can be consumed to raise any motive by 50 points, making your ghostly experience a little more immersive and rewarding.

Always Use Ghostly Traverse Toggle
The Ghostly Traverse perk is an amazing new power that came with the Life & Death expansion, but ghosts don’t always automatically use it. That’s a shame, because its teleportation abilities mean you can save time and spare yourself frustration with the game’s somewhat unpredictable routing system.
This mod toggles the Ghostly Traverse ability on by default, meaning your ghost Sims will always prefer it over other methods of transport such as walking. Your ghosts will now be able to travel more efficiently and use the Ghostly Traverse power to its full potential.

Ghosts Have Fewer Motives
Why do ghosts in The Sims 4 still need to eat, sleep, or go to the bathroom? In the real world, everyone does these things because they’re essential to survival. But if you’re already dead, what’s the worst that can happen? If you think this is absolutely ridiculous, there’s a mod you might be interested in.
The effects of this mod last for as long as your Sim remains a ghost, and disappear should they ever get resurrected. While your ghost Sims no longer need to track their motives in order to survive, they can still shower, sleep, or eat if they wish. They’ll even gain moodlets from doing so.

This is a pretty straightforward mod that grants your ghost Sims every ghost perk in the game, with no strings attached. It’s a bit easier than using cheats to apply them all, so now you can break the game just a little more efficiently.

Bind Book Of Life To Infants, Toddlers And Ghosts
If you have a Sim with maxed-out Writing skill and manage to complete the Bestselling Author aspiration, you can gain the ability to write a Book of Life. This powerful item allows you to resurrect the Sim bound to it, but an unmodded game only allows you to do this for Sims who are currently living.
That’s more than a little unfair, as The Sims is a game about doing whatever the heck you want. If you’re tempted to play God even more than usual, you can download this mod and gain the ability to bind ghosts to the Book of Life. It also allows you to bind infants and toddlers, for good measure.

Ghosts Don’t Break Stuff
As cool as they are, hauntings in The Sims 4 can be a source of endless frustration. Grandma possesses your bathroom sink, and suddenly you’re forced to sell one of your windows to pay for the repair technician. Maybe it’s not enough for you to send Grandma to the netherworld, but it’s enough to sour anyone’s mood.
With this mod, ghosts won’t autonomously break things they possess, although they can still possess objects. If you still want Grandma to get up to some mischief, you can always direct a ghost Sim in your active household to break an item they possess.

Ghosts Can Have Babies
In The Sims 3, it was possible to Try for Baby with ghosts. At least one bloodline got its start with a Sim robbing graves from the local cemetery and romancing the ghost that came with it. Sadly, The Sims 4 robbed us of this simple pleasure, rendering all ghosts infertile.

Spirit Fading Notification Shows Full Name
If you’ve been playing your save for a while, you might have a family that spans several generations. You also probably don’t care about every ghost, so you can probably let that one random townie move on to the afterlife. Unless that wasn’t Emma Smith, but her granddaughter Emma Graves, your legacy heir from a few generations back. Now that you think about it, there’s a lot of Emmas.
This mod is a pretty simple quality-of-life change that will save you from future Emma-related headaches. In an unmodded game, only a Sim’s first name is shown, sending players into a state of confusion as they scramble to figure out which Emma is fading away. With this mod, both the first and last names are displayed in “fading spirit” notifications to remove this ambiguity.

Ghastly Ghosts

This mod drastically overhauls how ghosts work in the game. Instead of being accepted as a banal fact of life, ghosts are treated as invisible until a mortal Sim gains the ability to see them. Furthermore, ghosts can only communicate with living Sims if both parties can see each other.
Being a ghost just got a little more exciting, but the overhauled communication system isn’t all this mod has to offer. There’s also a new holiday called the “Lifted Veil”, which enables all living Sims to see all ghosts. It makes reunions with Grandma all the more emotionally poignant.
