Eternal Strands does not feature a skill tree, and that ties all the player’s progression to Strands (magical abilities) and their equipment, including weapons and armor pieces. That’s the main reason why farming materials to craft new gear or upgrade existing ones is quite important, allowing players to keep up with the increasing difficulty of enemies.
The crafting system in Eternal Strands works a little bit differently from traditional systems, with players being free to craft their gear with different materials from the same category. However, using each material has a different impact on the stats, and the high-value materials give bigger stat boosts. For those looking to use Steel in their upgrades, here are the best spots in Eternal Strands to farm it.

There’s a lot of walking to do in Eternal Strands, but the game’s fast travel system should cut that down by a fair bit.
Best Locations To Farm Steel In Eternal Strands
Steel is a 2-star Forged Resource, and while it’s by no means a good upgrade for the mid-game or late-game realms, it’s a pretty solid starter material for players to use to reforge their existing equipment and increase their stats significantly.
Glintwood Hollow
There are two major locations in Glintwood Hollow that always spawn Steel/Bronze ores. As highlighted by a red line on the map above, these ores spawn on top of narrow ledges. There are always three rocks along each line shown on the map.
Dredger’s Mire
This realm is more dangerous than Glintwood Hollow for farming Steel, but if you still plan to visit the place anyway, it’s worth paying a visit to the west side of The Akron’s Expanse. There is a big cliff here, on the foot of which there are a few Steel/Bronze ores.
With the original gear, players can only damage Steel/Bronze ore using a charged melee attack. The normal melee attack will deal no damage, and a bow attack will deal very minimal damage.
Earlier in the game, Steel will be one of the best Forged Materials that players can use to upgrade weapons and armor pieces, offering +12 damage over the original Sword and Shield. Being a neutral ore, Steel doesn’t have any positive or negative impact on Cold or Heat resistance.

Eternal Strands: How to Beat the Ark of Stricken Earth
The Ark of Stricken Earth is the first boss in Eternal Strands that’s meant to ease players into the art of fighting giants.
The other higher-level realms in Eternal Strands still drop Steel through chests and other sources, but it’s usually harder to find Steel ores, as they are mainly replaced with Serenite/Candescite ores. Candescite is a 3-star Forged Material and grants better stat boosts compared to Steel.
That being said, this doesn’t mean that Steel will be useless near the end of the game. Knowing that each Steel ore can be exchanged for two Camp Supplies, players can still farm it to acquire said supplies and then upgrade the workshops at the camp. The Camp Supplies required for upgrading will significantly increase from Level 3 onward, so even if you don’t have a use case for Steel ores anymore, it is recommended to save them in the camp for upcoming upgrades.
