The Nintendo Switch 2 features a couple of significant upgrades from the original model. This includes magnetic joy-cons, a larger screen, and more powerful internals, allowing games to look better than the base Nintendo Switch. However, what really makes a console great isn’t how powerful it is, but what games are available.

With a whole new console generation comes the chance to revive some of Nintendo’s forgotten series or ones that haven’t gotten a fresh new title in ages. So which ones deserve the makeover treatment as they take a leap into the next big Nintendo console?

Earthbound

One Of The Most Influential Series Of All Time

If you’re an Earthbound fan, you were either there when the original games were released, or you heard about it from other games that were inspired by the series. The fact that the Earthbound series hasn’t had a new entry in years makes it perfect for a revival.

This RPG blends the everyday with the fantastical by mixing urban cities with mysterious lost worlds. The series has had such an impact on modern gaming that it only makes sense to return to the series that set that foundation.

Wario Land

Get Greedy

While Nintendo shouldn’t get greedy, it should definitely allow the players to do so. The Wario Land series is a spinoff that started with Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. This series has Wario using his might and muscle to collect hidden treasures.

While Wario Land had a good run, spanning from the Game Boy to the Nintendo Wii, Wario’s most recent ventures have been all about microgames. However, with the Switch 2, perhaps it is time for Wario to get his hands dirty again in his search for riches.

Despite being a fan-favorite character in the Super Smash Bros series, Star Fox hasn’t seen a new entry in years. With the Wii U being the series’ final resting place, fans were at least able to get their hands on Star Fox 2 as part of the Super NES Classic Edition.

The series revolves around space combat and fast-paced maneuvers as you take down enemy ships in the Lylat system. With a nice variety of vehicles to pilot and the Switch 2’s continued use of gyroscopic functions, it seems only natural to give the series the revival it deserves.

The original Punch-Out can be played through the NES App on Nintendo Switch Online, while the last new entry was released during the Wii era. Since then, the Punch-Out series has rarely been seen outside of Little Mac’s inclusion in Smash Bros.

With the Switch 2 continuing the trend of motion controls, it seems perfect for a virtual boxing match. With many unique characters to face off against and a simple premise, Punch-Out is one of those games that would be perfect as a single player experience and a multiplayer challenge.

If there is ever a series that needs to be woken up again, it’s Kid Icarus. The series has a mix of platforming, aerial combat, and all the flavors of Greek Mythology. The Kid Icarus games barely qualify as a series, with only three games.

While the first Kid Icarus game was released on the NES, it would receive one sequel before going dormant until the 3DS era. However, after Kid Icarus: Uprising, the series would return to sleep, never to awaken again. If the Nintendo Switch 2 gives any series a return, it should look no further than Kid Icarus.

A small series that has its own roster of remakes is Nintendo’s Game and Watch Gallery. These titles spanned from the Game Boy to the Game Boy Advance era while giving classic games their own unique Nintendo spin.

This includes Game and Watch games such as Green House, Helmet, and Egg in both their classic forms and updated modern versions. The modern versions would often give each minigame an update in graphics, while also adding in Nintendo characters such as Mario, Yoshi, and Toad. With success as both a console and a handheld series, Chibi Robo seems destined for success if revived as a Nintendo Switch 2 title.

The games focus on magic and the children who can wield it as they attempt to save the world from darkness. With fantastic visuals for the time and dynamic battle scenes, Golden Sun had plenty of eye candy for players to get sucked in.
