What began as a fan favourite entry has quickly soured into something sad and corporate.

Taking to Twitter, TheGhostofHope implied that the fan-favorite locale will return in Season 3. And, according to the math done by Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, Season 3 could be as soon as April.

With Season 1 lasting 70 days, that gives a mid-April timeframe, unless it’s an in-season update, which would push things to May. The return of Verdansk was revealed by Activision during CODNext in August, confirming some long-standing rumors about a return to the map that started it all.

Why Verdansk Is Making A Comeback

The possibility of Verdansk making a return was first reported by Henderson last summer. Back then, it was reported that the map was originally slated to come back before the end of 2024. However, the target date was seemingly missed.

The date was missed because, according to Henderson, Verdansk was never part of the company’s original plans. Rather, there was a massive pivot in response to the immense popularity of Fortnite OG. In an attempt to experience some of the same success — Fortnite OG topped 44 million players in a single day — a decision was made.

In the time since that decision, though, Fortnite OG has become a permanent staple for the live-service game. It’s unclear if Verdansk will also similarly be a permanent addition, or if it’ll be a seasonal rotation. Either way, it should give the franchise, which has struggled in recent weeks over microtransactions and alleged use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), a shot in the arm, particularly as 50 percent of its playerbase on Steam has been lost since Black Ops 6’s launch.
