The started great for xxxHolic fans, as the official sequel to the manga is confirmed to resume in a few months! xxxHolic (it is called just “Holic”, though) is one of CLAMP’s hits, and was originally serialized from 2003 to 2011, with 19 volumes. It spawned an anime adaptation from 2006 to 2008, currently licensed by Crunchyroll.

In 2013, the creators announced a sequel, titled xxxHolic: Rei. However, the series soon went on a hiatus, which lasted from July 2014 to April 2015. Later, it started to be serialized irregularly, and then it went on an indefinite hiatus in March 2017.

Why Does CLAMP’s X/1999 Remain Unfinished?

X is one of CLAMP’s most loved series, so why has it remained unfinished for more than ten years?!

But now the series is confirmed to return on April 21, 2025, in Kodansha’s Young Magazine. Actually, in 2022 CLAMP stated the group wanted to resume serialization in 2023. There is no confirmation regarding the schedule though — if only a few chapters will be dropped, or if it will be regularly serialized weekly (the magazine is weekly), monthly or at another frequency.

The original story follows Kimihiro Watanuki, a teenager haunted by supernatural and magical creatures. These beings are invisible to other people, so he mostly suffers alone. But one day he stops at a shop owned by Yuuko Ichihara, a witch, and ends up becoming her assistant.

More Recent News From CLAMP

xxxHolic fans have waited a long time for news about the series, but broader CLAMP fans have been receiving updates in the past few years, like the CLAMP Premium Collection editions of many manga. Cardcaptor Sakura fans are still waiting for a release schedule for the Clear Card Arc anime sequel. It was announced in 2023, but no news has been disclosed since then.

However, not all the news has been good. A few years ago, a Tokyo Babylon anime was announced in 2021, but it ended up being canceled after sparking controversy. The controversies have actually led to legal battles involving the production companies, but no information has been shared regarding the outcome of those legal actions. When the series was canceled, the official statement suggested that another Tokyo Babylon project could be coming, but nothing has been announced on that front.
