A new behind-the-scenes clip details Blumhouse’s Wolf Man movie, which shows off the incredible and terrifying practical effects that went into creating Leigh Whannell’s upcoming movie. The upcoming horror is written and directed by Leigh Whannell, whose previous movies include The Invisible Man, Saw, and Insidious, so fans can be almost guaranteed to be in for a gruesome and spine-tingling experience.
Produced by Blumhouse Productions, who supply some of the best horror movies around, Wolf Man is a remake of the 1941 horror flick, which was directed by George Waggner and stars Lon Chaney Jr. The story revolves around Blake’s family, who move with him from San Francisco to Oregon. As Blake, his wife Charlotte (played by Julia Garner) and daughter Ginger, go off to settle into his family’s derelict house after the questionable disappearance of his father, Blake is attacked by a werewolf, which infects him, leaving him to transform in the presence of his wife and daughter. Of course, things go from bad to worse as the family’s safety becomes a major concern.

Wolf Man’s Gruesome Effects Are Shown off in Behind-The-Scenes Video
In the new clip posted by Universal Studios on YouTube, the video showcases cast and crew members detailing how they specifically wanted to use practical effects while getting to work on the film. Director Leigh Whannell outlines that the effects for Wolf Man needed to be as real looking as possible so that it would feel like “it was actually happening.” Special Effects designer Arjen Tuiten reveals in the clip that he wanted to make this different from anything that had been done in the past.
Whannell said that he had been inspired by previous classics like John Carpenter’s The Thing and David Cronenberg’s The Fly where two anatomies mix together to produce horrifying results. The clip shows different images of how the team included realistic effects on places like the arms and legs to produce a rawer, animalistic visual experience. Julia Garner also pops up throughout the short video to express how “speechless” she was at witnessing the effects, stating that she had never seen anything look so real before, while the film’s crew thought it was “one of the scariest things they’ve seen”.
Some of the comments under the video praised the team for creating a Wolf Man that wasn’t “over the top” in appearance, loving the idea of reintroducing a werewolf that is actually scary. However, some commenters thought the lack of hair on a man turning into a wolf wasn’t in line with its lore and had hoped to see a “hairier” transformation.
