If you have played Magic Chess mode before, you won’t have much trouble understanding the game, as everything is almost the same. They have added a few of the previous equipment, heroes, and crystals, that were available in the previous updates of Magic Chess mode, adding a nostalgic touch, especially if you were a veteran player like me.

Additionally, the game also introduces new Commanders, such as Lukas, Moskov, Kagura, Nana, and Guinevere, making the gameplay even more exciting and engaging. Personally, I am enjoying running Lukas, as he is a really cool commander, and his skill perfectly works with my lineup. Moreover, they have also added Classic, Ranked, and Custom modes, which really makes it the perfect standalone game for Magic Chess fans.

Magic Chess: Go Go Basics

Commanders

When it comes to Commanders, this game features a lot of them, some not even available in the Magic Chess mode. The commander system in this game differs significantly from Magic Chess. Here, each Commander has passive and active skills, as well as emblems, unlike Magic Chess mode. Some commanders like Layla have two passive skills.

Commanders have Star levels, and by starring up the Commanders, you can obtain their enhanced skills. You can combine three Commanders of the same star level to increase the overall star level, which is quite different from MLBB’s Magic Chess mode.

Commander Star Trail

The Commander Star Trail allows you to unlock a variety of Commanders for free by collecting Star Trail Points. It is similar to Brawl Stars‘ Starr Roads. The commanders are unlocked sequentially along the Star Trail and each of them has Star Trail Points requirements to gain access. Once you have collected enough points, you can spend them to unlock a commander and progress to the next stage to unlock another.

Along the Star Trail, you will also find Commander Choice Bundles. You can spend your points to select one of the commanders from the specified group offered in each bundle. Collecting Star Trail Points is not that hard. You can collect them by completing the challenges in Go Go Pass, playing Classic or Ranked matches or you can get some from future events. Once you have completed your current Star Trail journey, the points that you earn after that will be converted to Chess Points.

The game also features a Gallery, similar to MLBB, which is divided into four sections: Hero, Equipment, Game Encyclopedia, and Go Go Cards. Each section provides detailed information about its category, which is nice for players to learn and explore.

In the Hero section, you can find out about all the Heroes available in the game and learn about the synergies they belong to. The 10 Factions include: Moniyan Plains, Northern Vale, Dragon Altar, Nature Spirit, Astro Power, The Eruditio, The Abyss, Mech Era, Necrokeep, and Los Pecados. The 10 Roles include: Bruiser, Dauntless, Defender, Weapon Master, Marksmen, Summoner, Swordsman, Mage, Support, and Stargazer.

You can learn a lot from this resource, which can help you understand the game better, although this guide is much better as it provides even more insights and helpful tips.

4. Go Go Cards

The introduction of Go Go Cards makes the game different, which changes the trajectory of your match if you select the right ones. Unlike the Magic Chess mode in MLBB, this addition makes the gameplay more challenging and exciting. The game offers Go Go Cards in three colors: Blue Cards, Purple Cards, and Orange Cards.

Like MLBB, this game also features a Ranked mode and includes 8 rank tiers: Warrior, Elite, Master, Grandmaster, Epic, Legend, Mythic, and Mythical Honor. We can expect the Mythical Glory and the Mythical Immortal ranks sometime in the future.

In this game, finishing in the Top 4 counts as a win, while if you are placed in the bottom 4, it counts as a loss. The ranking system is similar to MLBB, for instance, you rank up by reaching the maximum number of Stars in your current rank tier, and likewise, you drop a tier if you lose all your Stars. Your placement in the match determines the number of Stars you gain or lose after a match.

Not to worry, as Star-raising Points and Protection Points are available here as well. It helps you to rank up faster. Try to maintain longer winstreaks, if you want more Star-raising points. And try to win 1st place consecutively for bonus points. However, keep in mind that, after you hit Mythic rank, they won’t be of any use.

Rank Conquest

You can get various rewards, for hitting a new rank tier in the Rank Conquest. For hitting Warrior II, you get 200 Chess Points, 400 Chess Points for Elite III, 600 Chess Points for Master IV, 800 Chess Points for Grandmaster VII, 1000 Chess Points for Epic IX, Star Protection Card for Legend X, and S0 Exclusive profile background for reaching Mythic.

Season Rewards

Similar to Magic Chess mode in MLBB, here also you receive Season Rewards for playing the game. You will get Zilong’s Spear of Valor skin for playing 15 matches, 1000 Chess Points for 30 matches, Go Go Chest for 45 matches, 2000 Chess Points for 60 matches, x2 Go Go Chest for 75 matches, 3000 Chess Points for 90 matches, x3 Go Go Chest for 120 matches and Scholar’s Emblem boarder for 150 matches.

Events

Similar to MLBB, this game also has an Event section, where you can access all the ongoing events and it also has the News subsection, which consists of patch notes and MCGG socials. With the game improving over time and collaborations with other IPs promised by the devs, you can expect to get numerous exciting events in the future.

With the skins or items you had in Magic Chess Mode, you will get 100% value of the original assets. However, some assets cannot be restored at the moment because of copyright issues or incomplete development. There is no time limit for this event.

Go Go Pass

Must like MLBB’s Magic Chess mode, this standalone version also features a starlight system, known as Go Go Pass, offering various rewards and cosmetics. By purchasing the pass, you will unlock the advanced prize pool and all the rewards it contains.

You can earn Pass Points by completing all the Daily, Weekly, and Special Tasks, along with the option to spend Diamonds to increase the tier levels. Moreover, even if you are a free-to-play player, you can still claim rewards, though they will be from the free prize pool.

Magic Chess: Go Go Beginners Guide: Tips and Tricks

If you are planning to try out the game, then the tips and tricks in this guide will help ensure a smooth and enjoyable gameplay experience. With countless hours of gameplay on the Magic Chess mode in MLBB, and having solid experience in this game too, I have covered everything you need to know to get started. This includes prioritizing a good Commander, building a strong synergy, utilizing the Go Go cards strategically, and more.

1. Prioritize a useful Commander that works with your lineup

The first thing to do in this game is to obtain a powerful Commander, and either build a good lineup around them or choose a commander that strongly complements your lineup and synergy. Your commander plays a very important role during your matches, and you should utilize them properly to gain proper advantage.

Currently, Lukas is really strong, with his skill that transforms the Sacred Statue into a Sacred Beast, unleashing a shockwave blast that damages your enemy heroes and stuns them for 1 second.

2. Build a strong lineup with powerful synergies, and keep improvising it

To easily secure victory, one of the most critical aspects you should focus on is building a strong lineup that can help you every round from the early game to the late game. While having a solid lineup is essential, you should also have the skills to adapt and improvise quickly.

You may encounter tricky situations, where your current synergy won’t guarantee you victory. In such cases, you can make changes to your lineup by adding another hero to activate additional synergy, which can significantly improve your chances of winning the match.

Right now, you can run with two very strong lineups, that I am personally using and have been winning every match. You can use Johnson, Layla, Wanwan, Tigreal, Terizla, Melissa, Moskov, Minotaur, and Sun, for the 4 Guardian + 4 Marksmen + 2 Summoner + 2 Abyss lineup, and you can improvise it to your liking. Or you can go for the 6 Dragon Alter + 2 Swordsman + 2 Support lineup, which is pretty simple and easy to form.

3. Choose Go Go Cards that provide an advantage and complement your current lineup

The game offers various Go Go Cards during creep rounds, which is something new for this standalone version. During these rounds, you will get the option to choose between two cards, and you can refresh them twice if you are not happy with the choices.

For the lineups I suggested, here are some cards that you can prioritize during your matches:

  • Manic Slam Card: By choosing this card, you will get a Golden Staff, which has a bonus, that additionally boosts Attack Speed by 1.5% for each basic attack.
  • Victory Horn III: This is especially great for the Marksman lineup, providing 15% Attack Speed to all allied heroes, and an extra 1% at the end of each round.
  • Thickened Blood II: This card increases the damage dealt by your heroes by 30% after 10 seconds into the battle.
  • The Hunt: You should always look for this card, as it provides Golden Staff, Demon Hunter Sword, Sea Halberd, and 2 gold, perfect for both lineups I mentioned.

4. Make sure to upgrade your Commander to level three

One more thing that you should do in the game is to start up your Commander, as quickly as you can. Unlike the Magic Chess mode, Commanders in Magic Chess: Go Go have Passive and Active skills, along with their dedicated Emblems. So, while having a strong Commander is great, maxing it out is even better, for greater advantage.

Final Thoughts

Magic Chess: Go Go is an enjoyable and competitive multiplayer strategy game, that is not that hard to learn, but it can be challenging if you jump into matches without understanding the basics. In this game, you get to play chess-like gameplay, where you utilize various MLBB heroes, Commanders, equipment, synergies, and Go Go Cards, to outsmart and defeat seven other players.

Once you get the basic knowledge of the game, you can relax and play the Classic mode, or test your skills in the Ranked mode. While this is a beginner’s guide, if you follow through it properly, you will get familiar with the game pretty quickly, and improve your gameplay and winning streaks, in both Classic and Ranked matches. By following the valuable insights and useful tips provided here, you will be ready to enjoy a smooth and fun competitive gameplay experience.
