The new Fortnite Smart Build mechanic is not going to be in-game for a while. However, it is reportedly something Epic Games is working on for some future updates. They have gradually made building less of an obstacle for players. First, they added Zero Build for those who struggle with the mechanics.
Second, they added the Simple Edit feature to make it a little more straightforward. Now, they’re poised to add an even more useful in-game mechanic to aid those who want to build. A first look at it has surfaced early.
First Look at Fortnite Smart Build
Sometime in the future, Smart Build will be a feature in Fortnite. Right now, it’s not exactly clear what players will need to do to access and utilize it, but a new video, courtesy Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR, of how the feature builds has now leaked online.
The player seems to be building two or three items at a time. They are ramping up, but the feature is placing a ramp, wall, and floor in immediate succession. This is done so that the ramps are better protected from incoming gunfire.
With a floor and a wall, there’s at least one barrier from those directions to break the ramp, thus destroying the entire build and sending the player careening toward some fall damage and potentially an early exit from the Fortnite match.
It’s not clear what controls the player is using to access Smart Build or if it’s just a feature to be turned on and off and done automatically. It could still be far from being added to the game, as this is still a leak in early development.
It took Epic Games a while to get the long-leaked first-person mode (Fortnite Ballistic) and some of the movement mechanics live in-game. This one might be an addition well down the road. It is also a Fortnite leak, so take the information with a grain of salt.
