The cinematic universe of DC Comics is set to expand exponentially in the next few years with multiple releases for James Gunn’s DCU. While Max’s adult animated series Creature Commandos‘ first season debuted in December 2024 with its finale episode set to release on January 9, the DCU’s first official film Superman will release on July 11, and Peacemaker Season 2 is expected to release in August. 2026 will likely see the release of the Lanterns show alongside the Clayface and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow films, but in the meantime, Warner Bros. Games should develop more DC Comics games influenced at least in part by DCU projects.

Upcoming DC Comics Video Games Explained
There are currently only two unreleased games in development based on DC Comics, which include The Wolf Among Us 2 and Monolith’s Wonder Woman. The Wolf Among Us is based on the Fables series of comics from DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint. While The Wolf Among Us Season 1 released in 2013, a second season of the game was initially announced in 2017 but was temporarily canceled in 2018 when TellTale Games was closed down until being relaunched by LCG Entertainment in 2019. The Wolf Among Us 2 was officially announced at the 2019 Game Awards and later set for a 2023 release, but was delayed. The Wolf Among Us 2 is currently still in development.
In the 2021 Game Awards, Monolith Productions and Warner Bros. Games unveiled a teaser trailer for a new Wonder Woman game. According to Monolith, the game would be powered by their famous Nemesis System from their prior Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War games. Additionally, the game would be a single-player, open-world, action game centered around Diana of Themyscira uniting the Amazons with the rest of humanity in the modern day. However, little to no official announcements about Monolith’s Wonder Woman game have been released since 2021, with reports claiming the game is going through a difficult production process. It’s currently unknown when exactly The Wolf Among Us 2 or Monolith’s Wonder Woman will be released.
Potential New DC Games Inspired By The DCU
Despite The Wolf Among Us 2 and Monolith’s Wonder Woman facing numerous delays, Warner Bros. Games and DC Comics could still begin development on several DC games focusing on characters seen in James Gunn’s DCU projects. Gunn previously claimed that his version of Superman and other DC icons would be featured in films, movies, animation and gaming, hinting that games may be developed set in the DCU rather than the Arkhamverse or an entirely new gaming universe. While no DCU gaming projects have been officially announced yet, Warner Bros. can still develop other DC games featuring similar characters from the DCU to entice fans.
With David Corenswet’s Superman more or less leading the charge in introducing the majority of audiences into the DCU, Warner Bros. and DC Comics could work on developing a proper Superman game. Fans have long desired that the Man of Steel get his own game in the same vein as Batman’s Arkhamverse or PlayStation’s Spider-Man, and if 2025’s Superman is successful, this hypothetical Superman game could prove to be very popular and may help solidify a new generation of Superman fans. This Superman game could be a continuation or prequel to the 2025 film, or it could be a distillation of the best aspects and characters of the Last Son of Krypton set in its own universe, similar to 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man in contrast to the MCU Spider-Man films.
DCU-Inspired Games Beyond the Trinity
While Batman and Superman have been the focus of numerous games, and Wonder Woman may soon get her time in the gaming spotlight, Warner Bros. could strive to develop DC Comics games centering around characters beyond the classic hero trinity. With lesser-known characters such as Swamp Thing and Booster Gold getting film and show adaptations in the DCU, they could have games developed around them and their cohorts that are strikingly different from common Batman-based games. Warner Bros. could develop a more horror-centric Swamp Thing game or have Swamp Thing be a member of a Justice League Dark game focused on the magical side of the DCU. Similarly, given Booster Gold’s more comedic and sci-fi nature centered around getting famous, Warner Bros. could develop a Booster Gold game that has a vibe comparable to 2013’s Deadpool.
