Following the 32-inch QD-OLED 4K gaming monitor with DisplayPort 2.1a launched in December last year, MSI has added two more to its portfolio. The MPG 272URX QD-OLED and the MPG 272QR QD-OLED X50 are the world’s first 27-inch QD-LED gaming monitors with DisplayPort 2.1a. The MPG 272URX is a 4K 240Hz OLED panel, while the MPG 272QR QD-OLED X50 has a 2K 500Hz display, and both feature the latest DisplayPort standard. The announcement comes ahead of CES 2025, scheduled from January 7 to 10, where MSI is expected to share more details on its latest and greatest PC gaming hardware developments.
For the uninitiated, DisplayPort 2.1a offers significantly higher bandwidth compared to DisplayPort 1.4 in the form of a trio of transmission modes, namely Ultra High Bit Rate 10 (UHBR10), Ultra High Bit Rate 13.5 (UHBR13.5), and Ultra High Bit Rate 20 (UHBR20). This gives the new standard a maximum bandwidth of 80 Gbps, which is also significantly higher than the maximum bandwidth of HDMI 2.1.

MPG 272URX QD-OLED: Specs and Features
The MPG 272URX QD-OLED, as the name suggests, is a 27-inch 4K OLED panel that can refresh at up to 240Hz, with a response time of 0.03ms. This gives the display a pixel density of 166 PPI. You get VESA certification for ClearMR 13000 and DisplayHDR True Black 400. It has a five-layer Tandem OLED that improves light efficiency by 30% compared to standard OLED panels. The gaming monitor is quite color-accurate too, covering 98% Adobe RGB, 99% DCI-P3, and 138% sRGB color space.
Most importantly, the MPG 272URX QD-OLED comes with a DisplayPort 2.1a (UHBR20) port that is capable of 80Gbps bandwidth, allowing it to support the full 240Hz at 4K resolution. It also brings two HDMI 2.1 (UHD@240Hz) and Type-C (DP alt.) with 98W PD. Thanks to Nvidia G-Sync support, screen tearing is kept to a minimum, if not eliminated entirely. On top of that, MSI will ship a DisplayPort 2.1a cable along with the monitor.

MPG 272QR QD-OLED X50: Specs and Features
Those looking for a super-high refresh rate display and are comfortable with a lower 2K resolution will find the MPG 272QR QD-OLED X50 to be ideal. It boasts an incredible 500Hz refresh rate and is VESA Certified ClearMR 21000, a newly announced standard for high-refresh-rate gaming monitors. It also supports VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 for an excellent HDR experience.
Like the MPG 272URX QD-OLED, the MPG 272QR QD-OLED X50 also features a 0.03ms response time, the same color accuracy, two USB 5Gbps Type-A ports, and one USB 5Gbps Type-B port. Both gaming monitors come with OLED Care 2.0 to reduce the risk of burn-in, but in case there are issues with the monitors, including burn-in, MSI is offering a three-year Burn-In Warranty.
MSI QD-OLED Gaming Monitors: Price and Availability
MSI has not shared details about the price and availability of the two monitors, but it is presumed to come with a hefty price tag considering the top-tier performance. We can expect more information around CES 2025. Interestingly, the MPG 322URX QD-OLED that was announced in mid-December last year has not really gone on sale yet either, but is listed on MSI’s website for $999 with an out-of-stock badge.
