The story of Control sees its main character, Jesse Faden, exploring the Oldest House to unlock the mysteries of the Federal Bureau of Control, also known as the FBC. Along the way, she will not only uncover where her brother has been taken, but also obtain various powers that she will use to destroy the Hiss that are invading the headquarters. Even more, each power that Jesse unlocks can be upgraded and made even more powerful through the use of Ability Points that can be invested in the game’s skill trees.

There are a total of eight skills trees that players can upgrade to make Jesse more powerful throughout the game, each of them corresponding to a different power or part of Jesse’s character. These categories are Health, Shield, Energy, Melee, Launch, Seize, Levitate, and Ground Slam. Progressing through these trees will also help unlock the game’s various trophies and achievements. But players are going to want to know how to unlock Ability Points to invest in each of these categories to help them build out Jesse in the most efficient way possible.
How To Unlock Ability Points In Control
There are two ways for players to unlock Ability Points in the game, with the first being discovering the hidden locations around the map. The Oldest House holds a lot of secrets, and as players unlock more of their powers, they can then use these to access previously inaccessible areas in the vein of other Metroidvania-type games.
But the easiest and more surefire way to unlock Ability Points is to complete missions. Finishing both the main story missions and the numerous side quests will give players various amounts of Ability Points that they can invest in their Skills Trees.
Once the player has finished the game’s opening missions, every story mission they complete will net them four Ability Points to use. With 10 total main missions, that’s 40 Ability Points to be earned over the course of the story.
The side missions are where the bulk of Ability Points can be earned, as the base game alone has 18 side quests to dive into (19 for PlayStation users). But while the main story missions have a steady amount of 4 Ability Points as rewards, each side mission has varying amounts that can be unlocked.
