Helldivers 2 Dev Hints At Radio Stations For FRV

Helldivers 2 Illuminate Update Shadowdropped At The Game Awards

Helldivers 2 fans are on top of the galaxy right now. The Omens of Tyranny update brought not only the Illuminate, but also the vehicles and the melee weapons we’ve been hoping for. The update caused a resurgence in the player count and also saw Helldivers 2 return to the top of Steam sales charts.

Helldivers 2 was once an uplifting and collaborative live-service gem, but since launch, the community has become a hotbed of outrage.

The Illuminate front is perhaps the most cinematic of the three, thanks to its urban setting, Illuminate tripods, and of course, the FRVs zooming across the city streets. You may have seen a number of awesome TikToks and Reels showing Helldivers drifting around city blocks with Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Freebird playing in the background. It looks like you may soon be able to do this in the game as well.

When asked about FRVs featuring radio stations like in GTA and other open world games, Arrowhead chief creative officer Johan Pilestedt replied, “Haha yes, that has been on the drawing board for some time, but is yet to be decided on.”

It seems the devs know exactly what the playerbase wants and have been working on incorporating it into the game. This reply by no means confirms that FRVs will be getting radio stations or music capabilities just yet, as the devs may decide not to follow through on it for whatever reason.

However, just the fact that Pilestedt said that the devs have it on the drawing board means that Arrowhead is in tune with the players, and knows what kind of features they would like in the game. That’s one of the most important things for a live-service developer, and we’re glad to see that the Helldivers 2 team knows its community so well.

Yes, there have been bumps along the way – most recently, the crossover with Killzone caused an outcry over how expensive the items were. But what’s important is that Arrowhead knows how to bounce back from such a setback – in this case, offering the second phase of the crossover to all players for free.

Currently, while Helldivers all over the galaxy are focussed on the Illuminate, it seems the Meridia black hole has evolved into an interdimensional wormhole. The community is curious about what’s on the other end of this wormhole, but more importantly, what may come through it.
