Helldivers 2 Fans Have Some Ideas For The DSS

Helldivers 2 Players Already Hate The DSS

Helldivers 2 has been having a smashing time ever since The Game Awards. The Omens of Tyranny update brought everything that fans have been waiting for – melee weapons, vehicles, and of course, the elusive Illuminate. The player count is at an all-time high and the game has reclaimed its spot among Steam’s top games.

Helldivers 2 Proves Easier Can Be Better

“No pain, no gain” isn’t always the best policy. Sometimes, making it easier on the players can increase playtime and activity.

It’s hard to imagine the state the game was in just a couple of months ago, with the player count dropping drastically due to nerfs and lack of content. This progress has made us forget about all the issues the game was plagued with. All but one issue – the Democracy Space Station, a.k.a. the DSS.

After a lot of hard work and filler Major Orders, the Helldivers finally got their version of the Death Star operational. However, it was a major disappointment as it indiscriminately rained shells down upon friend and foe alike. Reacting to the backlash, Arrowhead promised that the DSS would be tweaked, and hopefully ready for action against the Illuminate.

Over on the Helldivers 2 Subreddit, a post by TripleWhiskeyShot sparked a discussion among players about what they’d like to see from Super Earth’s superweapon. “Could be 380 still but give it a delay and a warning like the Mortar warning from Automatons. Also give it a zone marker or something on the map,” said one of those comments.

However, others wanted to see the weapon systems of the DSS changed completely. Another suggestion to Arrowhead was that “they replace the constant barrage with orbital lasers from the DSS, turn it from WW1 artillery nightmare to a laser rave party”. I’m not going to lie, watching a barrage of orbital lasers from the distance would look pretty awesome, but maybe a bit too overpowered.

Another neat and subtle suggestion said, “Have the DSS drop a shield generator at the center so you can either run away or run into the shield. Keeps some of the chaos but also gives you a fair warning and chance.” The sheer chaos unfolding around you while you’re protected under a shield sounds like a scene right from the game.
