The Shatter Star Shield is an interesting one, as it benefits players who like to stay mobile and keep patient as they charge up an attack for some increased power. The Shatter Star Shield can use a Shield Punch, which blows enemies backward and can be further charged up to create a harsh amount of damage.
This defensive shield is fun for its ranged capabilities, but it might hold players back a tad due to its lack of aggression, and to charge it, players must hold back from the fight.

Onslaught Shield
Found in a Legendary Chest After Fighting Garm in Helheim, or Purchased For 7,500 Hacksilver
- Shield Rush: Double Tap L1 to Shield Rush forward into an enemy while Blocking incoming attacks.

The Onslaught Shield is reserved for those who prefer a defensive approach, as this bulky shield is able to negate most damage from enemies by blocking their advancement. Yet, there is still room for an aggressive playstyle with the Onslaught Shield.

Sometimes, parrying just isn’t the style players want, so the Stone Wall Shield makes for the perfect answer to that. With the Stone Wall Shield, players can absorb attacks and even strike back without the fear of messing up a Parry.
The Stone Wall Shield uses the Shield Slam effect, which allows players to charge the shield by blocking attacks to then slam it into the ground. It’s a highly defensive shield for those who just want to block damage, including yellow ring attacks.

The Dauntless Shield benefits from a high-risk and high-reward playstyle due to its reliance on parries. It’s the shield to use for players who want to practice parrying, or for those who have already mastered it with their ultimate reflexes.

Kratos harnesses further powers against the Norse gods in God of War Ragnarok thanks to the Draupnir Spear and its devastating Runic attacks.
The Dauntless Shield requires players to parry, for the block will do nothing but stun Kratos after one strike. With the Dauntless Shield, players are gifted higher Stun damage on enemies with the Shield Bash and upon a Parry, but it requires a fast input that some players might mess up.

Spartan Aspis
Crafted at the Huldra Brothers’ Workshop in New Game Plus
- A form of the Guardian Shield with a much smaller Parry window but stronger special counterattacks.
- Shield Check: Double Tap L1 to quickly Shield Check an enemy and break their guard.
- Parry: (Press L1 right before getting hit) to deal Stun to the attacker and empower your next Shield Bash. Time the Parry perfectly to significantly improve this effect.

The Spartan Aspis shield has a distinct visual style that combines Kratos’ Spartan past with the Guardian Shield. The best visuals, and arguably the best shield for the most skilled players, the Spartan Aspis is reliable thanks to its Shield Check and Parry, but it also has an element of risk due to the smaller Parry window.
Yet, with a stronger special counterattack when using the Parry, the Spartan Aspis proves the strength and brutality in every attack from Kratos, and since it can only be unlocked in New Game Plus, players should have mastered the Parry by then.

The Guardian Shield is a classic, so it’s hard not to rank this one higher. Not only is there a loving reminder for Kratos with the Guardian Shield because of his deceased wife, Faye, but it’s also a decent shield for familiar engagements in combat.
The ability to Shield Check and Parry is going to allow players the most versatile shield, as it can negate blue ring attacks and parry to provide strong counterattacks with a generous window.
