Dice-based roguelike deckbuilder Spellrogue will raise price ahead of 1.0 launch

If you’ve had your eye on Spellrogue, the early access deck-building roguelike that blends the progression of Slay the Spire with Dicey Dungeon style chance mechanics, now might be the best time to take the plunge. Developer Guidelight Games is planning to permanently increase the price of the game following the ongoing Steam Winter Sale in preparation for its 1.0 launch. That means the current discount might well be the lowest you can get the game any time soon, with the full release just a few months away.

Spellrogue is part of Deep Rock Galactic developer Ghost Ship’s publishing initiative, and it’s a rewarding turn-based roguelike that follows a Slay the Spire style of run progression and encounters but with dice-driven combat that will feel familiar if you’ve played the likes of Dicey Dungeons. Your chosen wizard’s spells require specific values to activate, and each turn you’ll roll a number of dice that must then be matched up to use the abilities at your disposal.

Currently, Guidelight is hard at work on the game’s fourth playable character, a Dice Slinger that makes use of Air Spells. They’ll bring a blend of lightning mechanics that focus on raw damage-dealing and repeating attacks, along with wind magic that emphasizes flexibility and the specifics of how you place spells in relation to one another. Some will adjust your lineup when played, or buff themselves or other skills as they move. Spell positioning is therefore both a problem to solve and a potential resource, creating some interesting build options.

“We’re super excited for how it’s turning out already,” the developer says of its new class, which will join the lineup when Spellrogue 1.0 launches late in the first quarter of 2025. The full release will also see plenty of other new features, improvements, and secrets. With Spellrogue having come a long way since its early access launch in February, the team says it’s made the decision to increase the game’s base price once the current Winter Steam Sale comes to a close.

The game’s price will increase from $15.99 to $19.99, with similar adjustments for regional pricing, after the current Steam sale ends on Thursday January 2, 2025. “We’re doing this now as Spellrogue has improved substantially since the start of early access and the amount, and quality, of content has greatly increased,” Guidelight explains, “which is why we feel the new price is a fair change.”

Ahead of the price increase, Spellrogue is currently 25% off on Steam until Thursday January 2, meaning you’ll pay just $11.99 / £11.99. If you think it’s for you, you can buy it now to take advantage of the lower price point while you can.
