This article contains spoilers from Naruto’s Final Arc.
Summary
- Sasuke has the potential for immortality through the Rinnegan.
- His original plan with immortality involved uniting the world through fear.
- Sasuke now prioritizes passing on the Will of Fire to the next generation over seeking immortality.
Sasuke Uchiha is one of the most powerfulNaruto characters, and quite easily one of the most well-written ones as well. His journey has been full of ups and downs, and throughout the years, he has continued to grow, both in terms of his strength and in terms of his ideology as well. Even though Sasuke started his journey in Naruto as protector of the Leaf and as a member of Team 7, he grew to oppose the village and swore vengeance upon it for what it did to his brother Itachi.

Kishimoto’s Original Story Plan For Naruto Will Shock You
Kishimoto had different plans for Naruto initially. Here’s what he had to say about this.
Sasuke craved power throughout the entirety of the Naruto series, and while it certainly wasn’t a healthy obsession for him, it did lead him to gaining immense powers at the end of the day. In fact, one of Sasuke’s many incredible powers is the potential for immortality as well, which, although a very interesting talking point, hasn’t been discussed enough in the story.
Why Sasuke Uchiha Could Be Immortal
- Sasuke Has Access To The Rinnegan
- Sasuke Can Continue Living Forever
Sasuke Uchiha might not strike as an immortal person to the fans. After all, he is just another ninja with an incredibly high power level. Furthermore, the concept of immortality, in general, is attached to villains in stories. For instance, in the Naruto series itself, fans knew that Madara Uchiha was edging closer to immortality. Similarly, Kaguya stood the test of time and could be considered to be immortal as well. For characters like Sasuke and Naruto, the concept of immortality usually isn’t on the table. However, in the case of Sasuke Uchiha, this power certainly exists. It might be a surprise to the fans, but Sasuke can easily gain access to immortality.
That said, there is a very big difference between Sasuke being immoral and him potentially gaining immortality. In this case, Sasuke can easily gain access to immortality, but he isn’t immortal at this point in time because he hasn’t sought out this power. That said, this power can be attained through the Rinnegan. As fans might remember, the Rinnegan is one of the most overpowered abilities that anyone could possess. It is the eye that rules over life and death itself, and can easily strip anyone of their life force, and, at the same time, take life force from other people as well. The Rinnegan is a majestic eye, and it is unfortunate that this eye has become a shell of itself and Boruto, with all its powers and specialties being stripped from it.
Regardless, immortality still exists for a user of the Rinnegan, and Sasuke is no different in that regard. If Sasuke wanted to, he could easily become immortal forever. After all, he has the means to accomplish it, and if he were still a villain, it is highly likely that Sasuke could have gained the power of immortality permanently.
Sauske’s Original Plan With Immortality
Sasuke Wanted To Live Forever And Unite The World In His Fear
Sasuke having immortality, or, to be more precise, the potential for immortality, isn’t something that fans have theorized themselves. In fact, this is factually stated by Sasuke Uchiha himself in the Naruto series. During Sasuke’s battle against Naruto Uzumaki, he clearly stated his own plan to Naruto. His plan began with the execution of the Five Kage and with that, the death of the Tailed Beasts. Following that, Sasuke would become the villain and, through his sheer fear, keep the world united and prevent all future wars and other issues in the world.
Reincarnation…immortality…I have many options in front of me. – Sasuke Uchiha
Naruto suggested that he couldn’t possibly go on doing this forever. To this, Sasuke clearly replied that he has now evolved his Sharingan into a Rinnegan, and because of that, powers such as reincarnation and immortality are now accessible to him. Sasuke, if he wanted to, could easily reincarnate in some way, or, continue living forever and be in the shadows. Even Naruto acknowledged this fact and clarified to Sasuke that this idea would see him become a villain in the eyes of all the world.
Clearly, the implication here is that Naruto himself acknowledges the fact that if Sasuke wanted to, he could live on forever.

Boruto: A Major Power Of Naruto Uzumaki Is Set To Return
Naruto Uzumaki was heavily nerfed in Boruto. One of his powers could be making a return.
There was a clear clash of ideals here in the Naruto series, and this is what made the battle between Naruto and Sasuke all the more exciting. These two figures went all out in the battle against each other, and it wasn’t just about who was stronger, but whose idea was right as well. Sasuke’s plan for immortality certainly elevated things even more, and had he succeeded in the battle against Naruto, he would then have executed this plan to perfection, and the future of the Naruto world would have looked completely different today.
Thankfully for the ninja world, things went in a different direction altogether and it was Naruto Uzumaki who pulled the victory over Sasuke, and not only did he beat him, but he brought him back to his side. Naruto then requested his help in changing the world forever. Ever since then, Naruto and Sasuke have formed a bond closer than anyone else, and they have, together, continue to protect the world from the many threats that could go on to destroy it.
Will Sasuke Live Forever?
Sasuke Will Likely Die A Natural Death
The question of whether Sasuke will continue living forever is certainly a very interesting one. The answer to this question cannot be absolute, but, in the current state of things, it can be said that Sasuke cannot continue with his immortality plan. For one, Sasuke does not have the Rinnegan anymore, which means that he cannot utilize this ability. However, even if in some way, Sasuke were to regain his Rinnegan or gain another Rinnegan in his other eye, he would still not go ahead with this plan. This is simply down to the fact that Sasuke does not believe in his ideals anymore.
Boruto, I believe in you. – Sasuke Uchiha
Right now, Sasuke has matured quite a bit and he knows that the best way is to entrust the Will of Fire to the next generation. Sasuke has become a mentor to Boruto Uzumaki, and he doesn’t need to live forever in order to ensure that the world stays at peace. All he needs to do is pass the torch to Boruto, and the other next-generation members, and be content with what he did.
The fact is that Sasuke not having the Rinnegan matters little here. Even if he did have this power, fans would most definitely get to see him age normally and eventually, die. Naruto had a profound effect on Sasuke and his way of life, and the fact is that he will sacrifice his own life for the next generation. Immortality would certainly have been a cool concept for Sasuke to explore at one point, but right now, he wouldn’t even think twice about it before discarding it.
