Genshin Impact Reveals New Characters and Skins in Version 5.3 Livestream

Summary

  • Version 5.3 will have Lantern Rite skins, Story Quests, and mini-games, with 20 free wishes during the Lantern Rite event.
  • New characters Mavuika and Citlali will debut in the first half of 5.3, breaking precedent.
  • Future characters and Liyue character reruns, like Shenhe and Ganyu, are anticipated in Version 5.3.

Genshin Impact has revealed official gameplay footage of Mavuika, Citlali, and Lan Yan in the latest developer livestream, as well as Lantern Rite skins for Hu Tao and Xiangling. While Version 5.3 won’t be adding a new zone to Natlan, it is expected to be one of the most ambitious Genshin Impact patches in terms of content. In addition to Mavuika, Citlali, and Lan Yan, players will also be able to finally obtain the Pyro Traveler over the course of the Archon Quest. Though Version 5.3 will close out the main story in Natlan, it will also feature a Story Quest for Mavuika and a Tribal Chronicle for Citlali.

The Lantern Rite will take place in the second half of Version 5.3, and Genshin Impact players will be able to obtain a total of 20 Intertwined Wishes for free via login rewards and the in-game mail system. They will also be able to invite a free Liyue 4-Star character of their choice, including Lan Yan. The controversial Chronicled Wish from Version 4.5 is also set to make an appearance in Version 5.3 – this time featuring Liyue characters who haven’t had a rerun in a while, such as Shenhe and Ganyu.

The developer livestream showcased combat and exploration gameplay of the upcoming Genshin Impact characters. While Mavuika is primarily a hypercarry, players can also use the Pyro Archon as an off-fielder in a similar vein to Raiden Shogun. On the other hand, Citlali will be the game’s third 5-Star Shield Support, providing a Cryo Shield to the active character, dealing off-field Cryo damage, and granting buffs to Pyro and Hydro damage by triggering Melt or Freeze reactions, respectively.

Another notable aspect of Version 5.3 will be the debut of two new character outfits for Xiangling and Hu Tao in Genshin Impact, with the latter having recently featured on the Event Banners in Version 5.1. In terms of Event Banners for Version 5.3, Citlali and Mavuika will headline the first half of the patch, while Arlecchino and Clorinde will be present during the second half. Lan Yan will feature alongside the latter two 5-Star characters. Notably, this will be the first time in Genshin Impact‘s history that both new 5-Stars will debut in the first half, breaking a rule introduced by the game during Inazuma.

The livestream teased future Genshin Impact characters, and though players could only see their silhouettes, keen eyes managed to spot Iansan, Dahlia, Ifa, and Skirk in the lineup. The developers also took time to tease Snezhnaya in Genshin Impact, though players will need to wait a bit longer for footage of Nod-Krai and the seventh playable region of Teyvat. Version 5.3 is set to launch on January 1, 2025.
