Two of the best-reviewed FPS games in Steam history are finally together

The history of FPS games is also a history of collaborations and influences. Without Wolfenstein, you have no Doom. No Doom, no Half-Life. No Half-Life, no Counter-Strike, and so on. Whether it’s FEAR or Far Cry, Deus Ex or Delta Force, the big-hit shooters all owe a debt of inspiration to one another. In that spirit, two of the best-reviewed FPS games on all of Steam have finally forged an official crossover. Available via a free update, this is, quite literally, Mullet Mad Jack meets Ultrakill.

Let’s get straight to the numbers. From more than 5,000 user reviews, Mullet Mad Jack, the frenetic, frenzied FPS game from back in May, has a 97% positive rating. Likewise Ultrakill – 97%, but from a gigantic, highly impressive 122,000 reviews. These are two of the most highly rated shooters on all of Steam, and now they’re together at last.

Available right now, Mullet Mad Jack has a new update and game mode. The game’s already all about speed. As a vengeful, vigilante streamer in a dystopian cyberpunk world, you need to kill, kill, and kill as quickly as you can to keep your viewer count and boost your ratings.

It’s part roguelike (levels are designed to be replayed to get higher scores, and you can swap between different abilities and power-ups) and part time attack. But now you can go even faster thanks to the superlatively challenging Boss Rush mode, where you have to beat Mullet Mad Jack’s toughest enemies in record time.

Make it to the end, and you’ll encounter the shooter’s hardest opponent yet: one of the iconic villains from Ultrakill itself. A loving homage to the classic era of Quake and Unreal Tournament, complete with blocky, polygonal visuals and gallons of gore, if you’ve beaten Ultrakill in the past and you’re ready for a fresh fight, this is the ideal crossover.

Available as of today, Thursday December 19, the new Mullet Mad Jack update is totally free. The game is still listed for its usual price on Steam, $19.99 / £16.95, but you can get it for a 25% discount over on GOG. Just hit the button below:
