Geralt’s age has long been a mystery. Vesemir says in the opening of The Witcher 3, set four years after the books, that he’s “nearly a century old”.
We know that the mutations make Witchers age slower, so combined with Vesemir’s comments, fans often speculated that he was in his 90s (hell, our own list put him at 97).
But after 30 years, series creator and author Andrzej Sapkowski has finally given us a concrete answer in his new book, Crossroads of the Crows.
How Old Is Geralt Then?
As reported by Redanian Intelligence, this novel takes place in 1229, following an 18-year-old Geralt. That means he was born in 1211.
So, at the end of the books (set in 1268), Geralt would be 57, and in The Witcher 3, he’d be 61. Granted, he still looks good for his age.
Yennefer was born in 1174, so she’d be 98 in The Witcher 3.
Sapowski has said in the past that Geralt is at least over 50, so it certainly lines up. It also means that he’s much closer in age to Jaskier/Dandelion than we originally thought, who is 44 by the time of The Witcher 3.
CD Projekt Red was also coy about his age throughout the games, only ever giving us a few vague references. But these can easily be reconciled to fit with Sapowski’s new novel — Vesemir was just making fun of Geralt for getting old.
However, the Netflix series is harder to excuse. It was way off the mark, with a 106 year old Geralt by the time of Season 3. In reality, he’d be around 56, a whole half a century younger!
