A Journey through Speed, Obstacles, and Rewards

CookieRun India is a horizontal runner game, developed by Devsisters and published by KRAFTON India. In this game, your main objective is to run as far as you can, while dodging difficult obstacles and collecting sweet jellies and coins to get a high score. The game currently features 20 Cookies and 23 Pets, to play with, each with unique skills. Some of the characters and Pets are even inspired by popular Indian sweets. In this CookieRun India review, I will share my impressions of the game and provide an honest rating.

For this review, I played CookieRun India on two different devices, Motorola G32, a low-end device, and iPhone 13, a mid-range device. Over 20 hours of gameplay time, I managed to break several run records while fully exploring and experiencing all the game’s features, which provided me with a solid foundation for a thorough analysis.

CookieRun India offers a casual yet addictive and challenging gameplay

Starting with the review, let’s dive into the gameplay experience of CookieRun India. The gameplay is very enjoyable, especially for someone like me who has played a lot of similar games in my childhood, and even tried a few other Cookie Run games. I can say that it is a great time-killer. Although the difficulty increases as you run further, you still don’t have to try hard unlike other games.

Moreover, with the variety of Cookie characters, Pets, and various game boosts, the gameplay experience becomes more fun and interesting. I am personally having a great time running the Kaju Katli Cookie and Parrot Dada combo, as they speed up the gameplay with their unique skills. Additionally, collecting cute jellies, coins, and other items adds to the enjoyment.

These Cookies are very adorable and beautifully designed, with well-crafted skills, featuring smooth animations. What I love the most is the addition of local Indian flavor to the game, with the introduction of two new characters, Gulab Jamun Cookie, and Kaju Katli Cookie, along with two new Pets, Tiny Tabla and Parrot Dada. Furthermore, with such a wide variety of Cookies and Pets, the gameplay never feels boring or monotonous.

I especially love Bonus Time, where your Pets help your Cookies to fly and collect the jellies and currencies and get higher scores.

Fewer game modes but replayability makes them worth your time

Regarding game modes, the game currently offers two game modes: Record Run! and Coin Palace Rush!, with a new mode coming soon. Both modes are enjoyable, with Record Run! being a PvE running mode where your objective is to avoid obstacles and enemies while running as far as you can. You can utilize in-game items like Abilities and Boosts, which can be purchased and upgraded before your run, to increase your score.

Abilities such as Energy Boosts, Jellies, and Bonus Time can be upgraded till lv20, while Boosts like Energy Boost, Power Jelly Boost, x2 EXP, Fast Start, and Cookie Relay boosts can be purchased before every match. This makes the game more interesting and increases its replayability as the further you run, the more you face new challenging obstacles, enemies, and locations.

Then there is the Coin Palace Rush!, a limited-time event mode, which is also a PvE running mode, but the primary goal of this mode is to collect Coins. The map is inspired by the vibrant landscapes and elements of India. What makes this mode more interesting is the fact that you can’t use any in-game items, nor can you use your Cookie and Pet’s abilities here.

Additionally, the obstacles in this mode deal more damage, making it more challenging. While this mode offers good replayability, the normal mode is better. In my opinion, the game would be even better if the devs introduced a few more modes to make it fresh and more exciting, as having only two modes can get boring at one point.

Delightful visuals and music perfectly complement the game’s theme

If you are expecting some next-gen graphics and visuals, you won’t get them in games like this. However, I must say that the visuals and environment design, along with everything in between, are really well-designed and perfectly fit the theme of the game. You don’t feel like you are playing a half-baked game.

Everything here is very cute and adorable, right from the characters and visuals to the environment, obstacles, and other elements. The background score is also charming and beautifully complements the visuals and theme of the game. You can play the game at full volume.

The game offers a well-designed UI with smooth controls

The game features simple and easy-to-understand UI, despite all the features and other stuff present in the game. It makes it easier for you to navigate through different modes or other features. For an endless runner, they have done a great job with the user interface, with adorable icons and large fonts to minimize confusion.

Moreover, the controls are very simplistic, where you can play the game with just two buttons, which are both highly responsive and intuitive. There is no delay, and the smooth controls allow you to easily avoid obstacles, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable gameplay experience without any issues.

Being an arcadey runner, CookieRun India falls short compared to other Cookie Run titles

Devsisters has released several titles in the Cookie Run series, with the most popular being Cookie Run: OvenBreak and Cookie Run: Kingdom. Cookie Run: OverBreak is the first title in the Cookie Run series, which, similar to CookieRun India is an endless runner title. Honestly, I found Ovenbreak more enjoyable, as that game features harder obstacles and better content.

Compared to the most popular title in the series, Cookie Run: Kingdom, an RPG, CookieRun India lacks in a lot of departments. While it is a fun game to play, it is still an endless runner title and the other games provide far better gameplay experience with richer content. However, if the devs focus on bringing more in-game content, such as new game modes and events specifically localized to the Indian audience it can be made much better.

You can opt for a complete free-to-play approach without spending on IAPs

The in-game store features a variety of items, including various packages such as the Star Cookie Package, Star Pet Package, and Record Breaker Package, which contains Cookie, Pet, useful boosts, and in-game currencies. Moreover, you have the option to purchase them for yourself and send one of them to your friends. This is also possible for the Cookie Pass, which is cheaper than these packages.

You can also purchase two New Combi Packs, which include exclusive Indian Cookies and Pets or you can grind and unlock them. You don’t have to spend on any in-app purchases, as you can grind and unlock most of the items and characters.

Plus you can obtain numerous rewards like Pets, Cookies, and Coins by watching ads. If you do feel like spending, you can buy the Starter Pack, which only costs ₹29, or go for the Cookie Pass, which costs ₹199, other than that there are affordable Gift boxes available, that you can purchase with 1 Crystal or 500 Coins.

Final Verdict

CookieRun India is a highly addictive and great game for passing time during breaks. If you are a fan of casual running titles, you should definitely try this game. It features adorable characters and pets, some inspired by Indian sweets, along with a well-designed environment, and background music, providing an enjoyable gameplay experience.

I found the Combi Bonus feature very interesting, which is very useful during your run and helps in earning higher scores and breaking your previous records. You can also utilize it while competing with other players. That said, CookieRun India is worth trying. With its delightful characters and engaging game modes, it is a must-try if you are looking for a fun gameplay experience.
