We have entered the Holiday season, and with that comes Pokemon Go’s annual Holiday Event! Like previous years, the 2024 Holiday Event will be broken up into two parts, possessing different bonuses, features, and of course, featured Pokemon.

Part One of the Pokemon Go 2024 Holiday Event will be active for about six days, spanning from Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 10am local time to Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 9:59 am local time. Our complete guide for this event can be found below, currently containing information on Part One of this event, and will be updated for Part Two.
Pokemon Go Debuts
There will be two Pokemon Go debuts coming with this year’s Holiday Event. This includes both a brand-new costumed Pokemon, and a Pokemon that will have the possibility of being Shiny for the first time.
First, you will have the opportunity to encounter and catch Dedenne wearing holiday attire. This costumed Pokemon will be available to battle against in its own One-Star Raid during this event.
Additionally, you will have the chance of encountering and catching Shiny Sandygast for the first time in Pokemon Go. During this event, you will be able to encounter Sandygast as a wild encounter Pokemon and as a One-Star Raid Pokemon.
Event Bonuses
There will be two different bonuses active during Part One of the 2024 Holiday Event, each having to do with a different aspect of the game. These two bonuses include:
- Catching Pokemon will provide you with double the XP.
- Eggs put in Incubators during this event will have half the hatch distance.

Event Wild Encounter Pokemon
You can also expect to see a change in the Pokemon you encounter in the wild. For the 2024 Holiday Event, there will be several holiday-themed Pokemon appearing more frequently in the wild, including:
- Delibird in a holiday ribbon
- Alolan Sandshrew
- Alolan Diglett
- Swinub
- Numel
- Sandygast
- Bergmite
- Litleo
- Darumaka
- Snover
Event Raids
There will be different event-themed Pokemon appearing in Raids during this year’s Holiday Event, including One-Star, Three-Star, and Mega Raids. Each of these event Raid Pokemon are provided below with the type of Raid they will be found in.

Event Eggs
7 km Eggs that are obtained during this event will hatch different event-themed Pokemon, replacing those that are typically found in this type of Egg. Make sure to acquire and hatch 7 km Eggs during this event for a chance to hatch one of the following six Pokemon.
- Cubchoo wearing a holiday ribbon
- Pichu with summer flair
- Spheal wearing a holiday scarf
- Hisuian Growlithe
- Amaura
- Charcadet
7 km Eggs can be obtained from Gifts sent to you by other Trainers you are friends with.
Event Research
Paid Timed Research
You will have the option of purchasing Timed Research to go with this event, requiring you to complete in-game tasks and providing you with different rewards for doing so. This Timed Research will cost $2.00 USD at the Pokemon Go in-game shop, rewarding you with the following when completed:
- One Incubator
- Event-themed Pokemon encounters
- Two Premium Battle Passes
- 1,500 Stardust
Field Research Tasks
During this event, you can obtain Event Field Research tasks from visiting and spinning PokeStop Photo Discs. Completing these tasks will reward you with different event-themed Pokemon encounters.
Collection Challenges
There will be event Collection Challenges available to complete during this event. To complete these Collection Challenges, you will need to catch and defeat specific Pokemon in Raids, rewarding you with Stardust, Poke Balls, and Great Balls.
Event Pokemon Showcases
You will have the opportunity to compete in different Event Pokemon Showcases during this event, appearing at different PokeStops throughout the game. Make sure to enter different event-themed Pokemon into these Pokemon Showcases, rewarding you with different in-game items.
You will place higher in these Pokemon Showcases when you enter the largest or smallest Pokemon, depending on the type of showcase.
For this reason, make sure to catch and keep event-themed Pokemon that are either large or small.
